Hi! My name is DaShaban Foskey and my Great Grandfather was supposedly a white man from Portuguese by the name of Emanuel(Magazine)Foskey. He married a lady by the name of Kattie(Katie)Redding and they supposedly had quiet a few kids... The only ones I'm sure of are Mamie Foskey, Duffie Foskey, Jack Foskey, Frank Foskey and Leo Foskey(10-14-1921/12-21-2001). If any of this rings a bell, please feel free to Respond. It is said that Emanuel and his brother(?) got into a heated argument in Portuguese(their birth place) that led to Emanuel leaving to settle in Lenoir,North Carolina in 1900.

HI, This cemtery at findagrave needs work and help.
I had been hoping that some descendants would come along and get the listings correct in order. There are mistakes there in info and I know only a small bit about the family. Andrew Jackson, son of Durant/Nancy Meeks Foskey married into the Barwick family and down the line there were some other marriages mixing the Foskey and the Barwick DNA together.

So I hope some of you will go over and try to help sort the people and add info and links.
I will be entering who I find in records into the cemetery, but will be glad to transfer with any requests.
Thanks, Susan Barwick
Hello,
I am related to Durant and Nancy Foskey as well. Below is a post I put on ancestry.com a while back.

"A male descendant of Durant Foskey (1812-1877, of Emanuel and Johnson Counties, Georgia, USA) has had his DNA tested. The male who was tested is a grandson of John Robert Foskey, who was the son of Emory Allen Foskey and the grandson of Durant Foskey. He had 67 markers done at www.dnaancestryproject.com powered by Genebase. The cost of this particular test is $269. The test is simple and painless to do and is explained at the website. Many Foskey researchers believe that another Emory (not Emory Allen) Foskey that settled in Pulaski County, Ga. and a Thomas Foskey that settled in Warren County, Ga. are brothers of Durant Foskey, or at least related. NOW IS OUR CHANCE TO FIND OUT! We invite any male descendants of Emory or Thomas Foskey to complete the test. If you do the test, any matches, including close matches would be sent to you at the site. I am a female descendant of Durant Foskey through John Robert Foskey. No one that I know of that is researching the Foskey line knows where Durant came from, and so we invite male Foskeys across the USA and the world to complete the DNA test as well. There are many Georgia Foskeys that would like to know their origin. Over 50 markers of this Foskey DNA have been attached to my Foskey family tree at ancestry.com. I also plan to post this message at other sites. Thanks. Jennifer C., amateur family genealogist"
Since you have a male-to-male line, would your father be willing to do a genetic test to back up what I have? I can share with you what the markers reveal so far--basically an eastern European/western Russian background.
I think a lot of us are stuck in the same place.
Jennifer

Hi! I am new to ancestry.com and am trying to trace my family history and find out what country my ancestors came from and when they came to America. Seems my family has been in Johnson County, GA for a couple hundred years! Anyway, I have traced them back to Durant Foskey, but am stuck here. My lineage is Durant Foskey had a son Andrew Jackson Foskey who had William R Foskey, who had Claude Otis Foskey, who had Daniel L Foskey who had Ronnie L Foskey who is my father. If anyone has any information about who Durant Foskey's parents were or where he came from I would very much appreciate it.

Did anyone who was tested find out which Haplogroup they were from and if so could it be posted. I am also descended through Durant Foskey. There is a family story that says his parents were from Scotland and that they came to claim land around the Ohoopee with another family from North Carolina and that while crossing the river the mother and father drowned but that Durant was saved and later given a name by the Governor of Ga. I have not been able to verify if such a thing took place, but do intend to research Ga archives in hopes that it might be verified. Anyone else heard such a bizarre tale?

I have now found out that Celia Ann Jane Foskey (daughter of Durant Foskey and Nancy Meeks) married Thomas Brantley in Laurens County Georgia on 21 Sep 1863. She was born 4 Apr 1840 and died 15 Oct 1888 and is buried in the Foskey Cemetery in Johnson County. They are listed in the 1870 census in Laurens County with no children. A sister, Ann Brantley age 35 is living with them. This leads me to believe that his father was William Brantley and his mother Nancy Unknown. Have not found them in the 1880 census yet.
Still would like information on them. When did he die? where is he buried? Did they have any children?

I have Celia Ann Jane Foskey Brantley married to Unknown Brantley. Who did she marry and when? Where was he born and when? Where did he die and when? She was born 4 Apr 1840 and died 15 Oct 1888 and is buried in the Foskey Cemetery in Adrian. Is this correct? Did they have children? If so, who are they? I have not been able to find them any the census in any year. Do you have this information? She is in the 1850 and 1860 census with her parents.
Jim Carroll

Who is this J. Robert Foskey

Bartow Wilson and J. Robert Foskey killed Jonas Wilson on 2 Jan 1898 in Emanuel County. Both Bartow Wilson and J. Robert Foskey lived in the Ethel community in Emanuel County, not far fron Adrian and on the Johnson County line.
They were convicted of voluntary manslaughter and sentenced to 8 years in prison.

Jonas Wilson was born abt 1876 and Bartow Wilson on 27 Nov 1877 in Emanuel County. This leads me to believe that J. Robert Foskey was abt the same age.

Any notion as to who this J. Robert Foskey is and his parents?

Jim Carroll

Please, tell me more. Everyone tells me that Redding Meeks is Nancy's father but NO ONE has PROOF. (documentation) My argument is simple, who would name their kids after another branch of the family? SO, any evidence you have to prove or disprove my theory is very welcome. All of this research is to try to locate Durant Foskey (born abt 1812 - Nancy's husband) somewhere in the stream. I could not locate your email address online but you can email me @jeffbhmb2000@yahoo.com. Thanks!
Jeff Beacham

Descendants of Durant or Emery Foskey (not Durant's son)

I started a big project many years ago, trying to connect Durant born abt 1813 and Emery born about 1810. They are the only two that show up in public records that I have been able to find with the spelling of FOSKEY. They both lived in neighboring counties. (I see family similarities in photos that have been shared with me on both sides)
Is it possible for all of us to pool together what we have to create a history of these two families? I have contacted many of you on both lines and some have been very helpful sharing much of your information, regretfully some had no interest.
I plan to complete this Family History book on these two men this year. This book is not for profit or for publlic libraries. Your help would be greatly appreciated. If you share information and would like a copy, I will notify you when it gets ready for print. I look forward to hearing from many of you.

Truth is ... I haven't got any further than George Dennis & Lydia as I have run into a blank wall with George Dennis having been born in ... Kingstown Jamaica! Would you believe it? It seems he married twice - first spouse Eliza F. Hollingsworth (in 1846 Shoreditch, Middlesex, England) and no children, then my GGM Lydia Heath (in 1882 in Edmonton, Middlesex, England) who was about 30 yr younger.

So ... is there a connection to the Deep South Plantation Owners FOSKEY? Maybe ... but I just have NO idea.

There was a 'cousin' of my GF in Australia too. His name was also George ... but I haven't followed that line yet. I need to confirm the link, but my Aunt said last year that they were definitely related (That's George Edward, son Raymond, his son Dale is living but appears not to be in Australia at the moment so I haven't been able to get in touch).

I have updated my tree on Ancestor.com for all the links I do know just this past week. Those elusive Foskeys!

Regards and good luck ...

Linda (Foskey)
