Hello Eimer and John, I hope you don’t mind my intruding in your chat. My name is Steve Foley from Boston, MA. I don’t know if any of this information will be of use to either of you or ring any bells but there’s no harm in sharing. Geneaology is, I guess, a team sport. Like many Folans, our name was changed to “Foley” at some stage in America. I have been researching my Folan/Foley family line for some time now and have discovered a link to Taughmore, Galway. The earliest I can trace back my Folans is to the 1840’s. My gg grandfather, John Folan (born abt. 1820), married a Margaret Flaherty in Knocknagreana, Furbo in 1842. One of their sons, Murtagh Folan (born in Knocknagreana), married a Julia Clancy (daughter of Thomas Clancy [and possibly Mary Dillane]) from Taughmore in 1889. I know from my research that there were several Folans in Taughmore and, subsequently, I am exploring the possible connections to my line. Another of John Folan’s sons, Andrew (married Mary Griffin from Cappagh, Barna), is my great grandfather. He settled in Boston in the 1880’s. I am also aware of many Folans having settled in Portland, ME and Norwood, MA but, in spite of copious notes, have been unable to connect the dots. Thanks for reading. Peace.

Steve Foley
