I am interested in information about Robert Austin Foard that is my grandfather. His parents were R W Foard and Maria E Partee. His grandparents were Fredrick Foard 1783 and Unice Doomas. His great grandparents were Wyatt Foard 1749 and Elizabeth Pearson. Great Great grandparent was either John or Wyatt Foard. Robert Austin Foard's early life as a young man is what I need to know. He married my grandmother (Etta Mae Osborne) when he was around 60 years old. His first of four children (Laura Mozelle Foard Boyd) my mother was born in 1914 when he was sixty two. Robert Austin Foard married Etta Mae Osborne of Independence Va. and had four children Laura Mozelle 1914, Robert Lee, 1916 William Fred 1920 and Maria Ellen 1924. His ancestors were from Cabarrus and Mecklenburg Co's NC. Would like any information available to this line of Foards. He had been married to Fanny Orr and they had no children. He had lived in Grayson Co. Va and Transylvania Co. NC after his marriage to my grandmother.

Hi,
We're cousins!
My father was William Harold Foard (1908), his father was William Henry Foard, whose father was Noah. Having kids late in life seems to be a Foard trait as my father was also nearly 60 when I was born. Ironically, I am at these sites today as I am going to be visiting Gettysburg Battlefield this weekend... I currently live in Phildelphia.
Where are you located?

Wyatte Foard of Rowan County, had two (2) brothers John Foard, of Mecklenburg Co., N C. and another that went to Georgia. No other information is known at this time. There is stories that he went to Texas. There is a county in north Texas named FOARD, but no word of how it was named. Wyatte's father was one of three brothers, Thomas, John, or Joseph. All were from Dunton Bassett, England. There father was Thomas Ford (FOARD)and mother was Mary. Hope this helps in your search.

I live in Elkin NC. My great grandfather R W Foard purchased a cotton mill in Elkin (Surry Co NC) from Richard Gwyn in 1866. It was known as Elkin Mfg. Co and operated by Richard Gwyn during the Civil War. The mill sat along the Elkin Creek and was powered by a dam. During the war the mill manufactured some Confederate uniforms. The Elkin Mfg was one mill they didn't burn. When Stoneman and his troops arrived in Elkin they were met at the mouth of the Elkin Creek by Richard Gwyn. Gwynn offered the troops food and a place to sleep. He also let them fraternize with his female employees. The men enjoyed their visit and didn't molest Gwyn's property. There are other speculations as to why it wasn't destroyed one being that Gwyn was of the same Masonic brotherhood, and another that Stoneman's girlfriend may have been a distant relative. R W Foard kept the mill about 10 years and sold it back to the Gwyn's. Good to hear from family. After your visit to Gettysburg I thought this might be of intrest to you.
