My Ford or Foard? ancestors

I am a FORD descendant; however, I have learned that the original name was not "Ford" but perhaps FORT. That name hasn't turned up anything, so I am exploring possible other names.

I am curious as to the origin of the name FOARD...is it English or Irish? Does anyone know how this name was originally pronounced?

Thanks.

julie

Foard is pronounced "Ford". It is supposedly Irish.

The spelling "Foard" is primarily Scots, there's a tartan too!

My grandfather and his brother were the only two of his whole family not to change the spelling from Foard to Ford. My family of Foards were originally Faure, Heugenots from France. From what I am finding out, the name Faure became Fore, Ford, Fort, Foard and probably other versions. So your Ford name could be French, Irish, English or even could have been Furt which would probably be German

I wonder if I am related to any of you Fords. My father and grandfather were George Ford (from Pennsylvania); great grandfather David Henry Ford . That much I know for sure. Then I believe my ancestors were from Maryland-John B. Foard junior and senior. Anyone related air have info?
