Christoper & Therese Fleming were my great grant uncle and his wife, who emigrated from Ireland via Liverpool in 1920. Per the passenger list, they had a daughter named Gabrielle. Despite checking Tarrant County online records, we can find no reference to her birth, marriage or death. The family address was 2845 Lipscomb Street, Fort Worth. I know that this is unlikely to be your family, but we would be grateful for any additional information on Gabrielle / this family. Many thanks.

The story of John FLEMING in Oregon formerly of Illinois
This information sent by POTTS:
" An Illustrated History of Union and Wallowa Counties- State of Oregan"-1902- pages 580 and 581.
Our John FLEMING. Death occured 29 April 1895, his burial is in Oddfellow's & Mason's cemetery in Joseph, Oregan. John FLEMING's wife was Elizabeth (GWILLIN) they married 23 December 1884 in unknown place-it is not stated in story and I have found no record of it. They had the following children:
Thomas W., Herbert L., Homer R., and Harriet E. FLEMING.

We are searching for further information on this FLEMING family. Did they stay in Oregon? Is there more information on the family in Oregon? Is there anyone else researching this family? There is 6 in the Fleming family now connected and searching for more connections-- Contact me directly at: mamaflem2.2@gmail.com

This sent to us by Laura:
The Oregonian (Portland, Oregon) May 5, 1895 Page 3
A Wallowa Homicide
A Dispute Over The Ownership of a Cow Ends in Murder
Word has reached The Dalles of a tragedy at Enterprise last Monday morning. John Fleming, a young farmer living about 4 miles southwest from Enterprise, was shot and instantly killed by John Baslm. The two lived neighbors. (as written) Fleming and his 7-year-old son rode over to the Baslm ranch in the morning to look after a cow. Baslm and Fleming had some hot words about the cow trespassing on Baslm's property. Baslm, who was plowing at the time, unhitched his horse and rode on to his house, about half a mile away, while Fleming and the boy continued to search for the cow. Baslm soon returned, armed with a shotgun, and ordered Fleming off the ranch. They had some further words, when Baslm raised the gun and fired. The entire charge of the gun entered Fleming's right breast, piercing the lung cavity and causing instant death. Baslm rode over and told his brother what he had done, and then went to Enterprise and gave himself up to Sheriff Neal.
Both parties are well known in Wallowa County. Baslm has been considered an excellent citizen, but is said to be a man of very high temper. The examination of the defendant, charged with murder in the first degree, has begun before Judge Olmstead.
At the inquest over the remains of Fleming, the coroner's jury returned a verdict of murder against Baslm. Both parties connected with the tragedy have families, and the affair has caused a great amount of public excitement. The Fleming boy's story of the affair corresponds with that told by Baslm.

Jim,

As a physician I greatly disagree. The surname DNA that is tested is a side chain of your Y chromosone. It changes by one mutation on average every 15 generations. For instance, I have proof that my Y DNA is exactly the same as that of my great x 4 grandfather b. 1760. DNA is a wonderful new addition and has helped me eliminate some Fleming lines and incorporate others that I would have never been able to be sure about without it.

John - thanks for the tip. I'm tracking about 72 ancestral lines, down to the present, for Y-DNA and mtDNA testing. Remember - your get only a small percentage of your DNA from SURNAME (or all-maternal) line. So far my 4 grandparents were E1b1b1a2, H3*, R1b1b2, T2b6 [so I'm a real mutt]. Thanks for the file.

Jim

Jim,

It is easy to find living descendants. I have done it a number of times. Simply follow the various well documented branches until you get to somebody born between 1920-30 and you will likely find a living descendant. I simply call and offer to pay for part or all of the cost and that usually works.

Hello

I am Lorainne Davis and am researching Flemings from Sargura. The information I have so far.... My great grandmother was Mary Ann Fleming from Sargura (died 1960. She married Michael Cahill from Ballyglass. She had two sisters that immigrated to Philadelphia - Nell & Bess. I Believe Mary Ann's father was Bill Fleming, but am not sure. If you have any information on this branch of the Flemings I would be glad to hear from you.. Thanks

I just saw your message. My gg grandfather was John Fleming born in Rockingham County, NC about 1785. His father was William Fleming who married Agnes Starret in 1772 in Guilford County, NC. I have a copy of his last will
and testament dated 4/9/1793, naming his wife Agnes, and his eldest son Samuel, daughter Catherine, sons, Joseph and John who was my 2nd g grandfather, and younger sister Polly. William died very shortly afte will and the will was probated in August 1793 in Rockingham County, NC. The will mentions William's plantation in Rockingham County, as well as other acreages to be left to his three sons, Samuel, Joseph and John. According to my grandfather, John James Fleming, his g grandfather came from Ireland and settled in NC (his g grandfather was William Fleming). We are not sure of William's date of birth. His wife Agnes was b: about 1750. I would definitely like a copy of your info as referenced in your 8 October 2009 posting. Please let me know. Thanks so much. Pat Mayson

I did a search on the 1911 Irish Census and found a Michael Cahil living with Flemings in Baltinglass, Wicklow. It shows him as a grandson. If I make a connection I will let you know. Please keep me posted if you find anything. Good luck with your search!
Kevin

My Flemings from Ireland to Black River area, South Carolina, about 1763, farms near Sumter. John Benjamin
Fleming I,II,III. My GGM daughter of JBF III. Married
Robert James Smith of Mars Bluff, SC. They visited and lived in Florida early after civil war for a time with Fleming relatives. I wonder if their relatives were from
Fleming Island, near Jacksonville. One son was born in Florida. Can anyone make a connection? Who were some of the Flemings living on the island?? There is a well known book written aboutlife there, but can't put my hands on infor now. sjgreen@frontiernet.net

Thanks for the reply. Since I made that posting, I discover some new info that indicates the Robert Fleming I mentioned was married to Betsey Andrews in 1817 in Madison Co, KY and his parents were most probably a James Fleming and Susannah Patterson who were also married in Madison Co, KY in 1792. James Fleming was in Madison Co, KY in 1810 so I’m not certain if the John Fleming in Howard Co, MO in 1810 is related or not.
