The maiden name of Jane or Jean
Stephenson Fleming has never been discovered. I hoping that
Fleming researchers might know the maiden name of Jane or Jean. A John
Stephenson and David
Stephenson of Ireland went to
Orange County,VA and Old
Augusta Co,VA by 1734. A John
Stephenson and a Jane James sold 110 acres to William
Ramsey in
Augusta County,VA in 1753.
My John
Stephenson and wife Jane applied for a royal grant in what is now
York County,SC in 1762 on
Stephenson branch of Bullocks
Creek. In the 1760's a David
Stephenson settled on Turkey
Creek in
York County,SC,some five miles away from John. The information I have points to Old
Augusta Co,VA,now
Rockbridge Co,VA,but It can't be proved that the John
Stephenson and wife Jane in SC.were the same ones in Old
Augusta Co,VA.
My John
Stephenson might have had some connection to a James White
Stephenson b. 1754 in
Augusta Co,VA, who married Mary
Fleming. He and Dickeys,
Flemings,James' are outline here:
http://www.libraryireland.com/articles/ScotchIrishSettlersSo...As far as I know, there is no connection between my John
Stephenson and James White
Stephenson, but I find it fascinating how the same surnames show up. James White
Stephenson went to
Lancaster Co,SC for a time which is next to
York Co,SC.
