I feel like this has to be easier than I am making it! My gg grandmother’s name was Mary Brady. She was born around 1858 and lived in Drumavaddy, County Cavan. She married Thomas McPhillips in 1874 in Clones, County Monaghan. The young couple told the priest that they were on their way to America, but they somehow wound up in Dundee, Scotland where Thomas became a police constable and later a publican.
I can fill in most of Mary’s details (i.e. her children), but what puzzles me is who are her parents?!? On the record of death, her son Thomas listed her parents as Owen Brady and Mary Newman. However, on the record of marriage, Mary listed her parents as Edward Brady and Isabella McKenna!
Mary had a sister named Ellen, who married Patrick Finnigan and lived in Cavan, possibly moving to Belfast later on. Ellen and Patrick had a lot of children, many of whom wound up in Dundee, so I am hoping that one of their descendants will see this and may know Ellen’s parents’ names. Mary and Ellen must at least have the same father in common. Ellen was likely a lot older than Mary, as Ellen’s son Andrew was only a few years younger than Mary. Also, there must have been siblings in between, but I have not been able to find them!
Here is a list of Ellen’s children (I think….):
Andrew Finnigan, born in County Cavan around 1860, died in 1924 in Lochee, Scotland. By the way, his son Charles served as Honorary Dental Surgeon to the Queen from 1955-1960
John Finnigan (1865-1912)
Belle Finnigan (1867-?)
Mary Anne Finnigan (1870-?)
Patrick Finnigan (1872 or 1873 – possibly two children named Patrick and the first died?)
Michael Finnigan (1875-?)
Charles Finnigan (1879-?)
Peter Finnigan (?)
Edward Finnigan (?)
I have a lot of information about Ellen’s children as several of them affected Mary’s life.
If anyone has any information on Mary’s parents or other siblings, I would be so grateful!
