Hi,
Thanks for the information. I am puzzled though since no Mike appears in the 1900 nor 1910 census for Rolla and family. This has to be around 1917 or 1918 So even if Mike was born after the 1900 census he should be in the 1910 one. Sometimes kids were visiting relatives when the census was taken and they appear with a different family. I checked again and could not find him. Can you share his birth and death dates and places and his spouse's information also so I can put him into his proper place in the family tree? Thank you, Tom Walden

His father, James, was listed as a 'Joiner' on William's Marriage Certificate, when he married Maggie Leach (of Irish descent) in London in 1899.

William was a seaman, working between Nfld and the UK, even after his marriage.

I have a lot of FIFIELD family members in my grandmother's tree. These are the FIFIELDs who came into MONTANA. I recently came across this photo of a young man in a uniform for WWI era and it looks pretty much like it says "Mike Fifield" along the left border. I don't have any Mikes in that branch (from that era) that I know of and I'm just wondering if I'm missing somebody. This would have been passed down through a SMOTHERS family member to my great grandmother Maggie SMOTHERS THOLL. The FIFIELDs lived in RAVALLI county and in that general part of the state. Please let me know if you have any information on this guy. I hate orphan photos, especially when they even have a name on them.
Tom email: twalden27@gmail.com

I'm a granddaughter of William Fifield b abt 1868 to 1873, apparently in St Johns, Nf. I've written to several Fifields in the St Johns area, but with no luck.

Would be sooo grateful for any help.

Regards,
Susie

Hi-
I am at the same point in my research. I have seen the christening info(2 January 1803) and the photo of her grave marker (1892; states her age as 92). I'm wondering if her birth isn't closer to 1800-1801. I'm currently trying to find her parents.

I will share if I get lucky enough to discover them and hope you will do the same.

Wishing us both luck-
Diane

Fifields and Butlers of New Hampshire

I am looking for information on the Butler family that includes Elijah, Nathaniel and William M. Butler. Elijah married Lydia Fifield and was a doctor practicing medicine in Weare, New Hampshire. Nathaniel F. (might stand for Fifield) was born in New Hampshire 7 August 1795. He married a woman named Rachel. They had at least 3 children that I am aware of, all born in New York (probably Jefferson County). By the 1840s they were living in Chicago. I believe that their son was William Moulton Butler, who lived in Chicago and married twice: Celia Temperance Bliss and Elizabeth Johnston. In the 1870s he moved his family to Hobart in Lake County, Indiana, where he died in 1895. I do not have conclusive proof that Nathaniel was William's father, although William did live with him in Chicago. Any help in ironing out this line is greatly appreciated!

Sorry to wait so long to reply. I got real busy and stopped doing my research. I am going to start working on it again. We live in BC, I grew up in Montreal, My Grandfather Harry Pearce emigrated from Newfoundland as a boy. We are planning a trip back across Canada ending in Newfoundland this coming year. This research will make the trip very interesting as I hope to connect with family from way back. Thank-you very much for your information as the Fifield line has been a blank up until now. I have had my mDNA tested and this will turn up some interesting information regarding the maternal lines. Thanks again. Blake Pearce

Thought I'd add a little more(may not be relevant),Fifield's were, I believe, from Ulster area originally. My grandfather was an Orangeman and they were present at his funeral. Also, my uncle-Fred Fifield-who has passed, left behind a wife-Marion Fifield-my aunt Marion has researched the Fifield's and may have some information. She may be on the computer or, if not, she now lives in Halifax.

Again, Good-luck,

Andrew Fifield

Hi, my name is Andrew Fifield.I live in Cape Breton, but am originally from the Dartmouth N.S. area. My father grew up in Greenbank located in Halifax. His father,William Fifield had lived there after having family in Sydney area and , before that, was raised in Bonivista Newfoundland. There are still many Fifields in the Bonivista Bay area and may be a location to broaden your search. Also, I would assume Memorial University in Newfoundland may have someone to point you in the right direction if you have not already tried this.
Best of luck,
Andrew Fifield

I'm looking for more information on my great uncle, John A R Fifield. He was born in 1915, in Plumstead, London, UK to father John Richard Fifield and mother Maud Augusta Fifield (nee Blanche). He had two brothers; Stanley William and Reginald Harold.

He went to the Haberdashers Aske school in London, and then went on to be an electrical engineer. I believe he was living in Philadelphia for a time, so may have some family out there. We never knew of any marriage, or children. He retired in Poole, Dorset, UK, and died there in March 1993.

would love to find out more if you know anything.

I found a picture in an old photo album that belonged to my great grandfather. It says on the photo album Uncle Fred Fifield. I looked on my genealogy and the only Fred Fifield I have would have been born in 1810. The picture was taken in Vermont which is where my Fred Fifield is from. There is no date on the picture but you can tell it is a very old picture. If anyone is interested in the picture I have a pretty good scanned copy of it I could email you.

William Elisha Fifield in 1920 and 1930 census' in Newport, Orleans, VT

I'm looking for information on a William E(lisha) Fifield, b: May 1880 in Mooers, Clinton, NY, who shows up in the 1920 and 1930 census records for Orleans County Vermont -- and is still in Newport, Orleans, VT in 1942 (per his WWII draft card).

His occupation on the 1920 and 1930 census records and WWII draft card is given as a US Customs inspector.

On Ancestry, his WWI and WWII draft registration cards document his date of birth as 19 May 1880. His WWII draft card (1942) gives his place of birth as Mooers Fork, New York -- which is in Clinton County. On Ancestry, the location has been transcribed as Orange County, Vermont -- but looking at the image, the city location is Newport and county is "Or" -- which I believe to be Orleans -- not Orange county.

My "guess" is that this William Fifield is the son of Henry George Fifield and Mary Sylinda Fitch who can be found in the 1880 census in Mooers, Clinton, New York -- age 1 month (census date June). [Henry George Fifield is a "generation 7" descendent in Peter Well's "Fifield One-Name Study" -- so this William Fifield would be a Gen 8 descendent.] But I have nothing else to tie the William Fifield of the 1920 & 1930 census' to the William Fifield in the 1880 census -- so this can only be an educated guess.

In the 1920 and 1930 census records, William Fifield is living with a wife, Mabel L, b: abt 1883 in Vermont, and two daughters. The oldest (adopted?) daughter is Mary O, b: Jun 1916, likely South Hero, Grand Isle, Vermont (based on William's WWI draft card in 1918). The second is a Helen E, b: about 1921 in Orleans County, either Craftsbury or Newport.

On his 1942 WWII draft card, his nearest relative is given as Mrs. Grace(?) Fifield.

I haven't yet found strong matches for this William Fifield in the 1900 and 1910 census records.

Many thanks in advance.

...
