Charles (I think) was my 3rd great Grandfather. One of his sons (William) had a daughter (Mary) who I believe had one son out of wedlock and the father is not named on the Birth Certificate. His name was Thomas Fieldsend (my grandad). She then married a Mr Holmes.

Hi Peter,

Nice to hear from you - the names you mention haven't cropped up directly, but I'm not currently aware of Charles' parents or other siblings.

However - as Chris points out in the next post - the story that you have of Richard working as a groom ties in with a family story I have about Ann Ashforth and Joseph Fieldsend (one of Charles' sons) which is too much of a coincidence to suggest that there isn't a connection between the two branches:

Notes speaking of Ann Ashforth:
"Her father, overseer on Wentworth House estate. He used to read the newspapers to members of staff. Granny saw Queen Victoria who stayed at Wentworth before she was crowned (year about 1836) with the Fitzwilliams"

There's sure to be a connection - but I've nothing more concrete at this point in time. Worth investigating - so do keep in touch!!

Peter

I found this post on another board. Goes towards the idea that Charles was related to Richard.

http://boards.ancestry.co.uk/topics.organizations.rotherhamf...

I come from Richard's daughter Emma Fieldsend who married Thomas Lambert.

Chris
Hello

I've just come across this thread after having contact from a distant cousin in Iowa. None of the Fieldsend names mentioned tie up directly with mine but the Wentworth location does. My GGGGgrandfather was Richard Fieldsend (b1806) who worked as a groom at Wentworth Woodhouse for the Earl Fitzwilliam. Could he have been the brother of Charles (1800). Richard had 6 children James (1829), Lucy (1836) Rose (1838), Edward (1843), Emma (1844) and Clement (1854). His wife was Jane (possibly nee Gothard). Does any of this ring any bells with your research?

Margaret Fieldsend

I think I may have made a mistake in my tree with regard to the Fieldsend branch/s. My Great Grandmother was Violet Maud Wray (1900-1986), her mother was Ada Fieldsend (B. Abt 1867 Middleham, Yorkshire). I do not have a father for Ada and have searched through record after record. I think I may have her mother who is Margaret Fieldsend (B. 1855 Caldbergh, Yorkshire), the only problem I have is that if Margaret had Ada she would've been 12 at the time. Does anyone else have this line and have I made a mistake or is it correct? I'm wondering if Margaret became pregnant through no fault of her own..... interesting!

Hi, I dont know if there is a connection. Unfortunately I have very little on my FIELDSENDs, they are on my husbands maternal side. I have a Henry FIELDSWEND who was married to Martha (possibly SCOTT) and they Thomas in 1862. Thomas Married Annie E WHITE in 1882 and had 6 children I know of: Frank 1884, Annie Elizabeth 1887, Blanche 1891, Mary Ann 1895, Mary Elizabeth 1896 and Elsie 1898. Annie Elizabeth married William CHATTERTON, my husband's grandfather in 1908. Annie died from burns after her apron caught alight from the fire at home in 1932. She ran out into the street shouting and a neighbour came and doused the flames. She died in hospital a few days later. There was an article in the Sheffield Star at the time. One year later one of William's sons Arthur married Sarah Ann BENSON and in 1939 William remarried Sarah's mother and they were married until his death in 1952. I will put a message out on the Sheffield list to see if anyone can get me information on the 1861 census and will get back to you.

Best wishes

Sarah Hale Fieldsend

I'm looking for information on a woman named Sarah Hale Fieldsend who was married to James J. Davis of the 147th Volunteers during the Civil War. They were from Illinois and he died in Kingsley. I've seen outdated links to other web pages with both of their names but since the links are no longer valid I was unable to access the information. Anyone out there know anything about her or where I can find something perhaps??
