Zachariah Taylor Fewell/Fuel

loranfuell  (View posts) Posted: 28 May 2001 2:22PM GMT
Maybe you already know this, but Taylor was married two times, the first to Emaline and the second to Mary Amanday STRINGER. The second marriage took place 15 Sep 1908. He had one son from the marriage, Charles Oliver FUEL. This information came from Charles himself, to my father, back in the Sixties.

Charles lists Taylor's birth as 17 Jan 1849, Edinburg, Johnson, Indiana. That is the reason for the search in that area. He would have known Taylor quite well before he died, and so hopefully this information is correct. I will look in the Census records themselves and not rely on the index this time, maybe a mistake there. And of course these people moved and traveled at the drop of a hat. It is interesting to me in this age of comfortable travel, we really don't move that much; but these people, back in the horse and wagon days, traveled extensively.

I was in contact with a Jennie LANCASTER FUEL (this is the way she spelled it) a few years ago. She was old and her eyesight had all but failed. She sent me some information on Taylor. Her husband, Walter Taylor FUEL, was Taylor's grandson through John Henry FUEL and Amanda MCCRARY.

What information do you have on Taylor? This will help to not duplicate. The E-mail address I usually use for Genealogy is, FewellGen2001@aol.com
Do you have any information on other Fewell, Fewel, Fuell, FUEL families. I am putting together a Fewell DATABASE to be posted on the I-net, and all information would be appreciated. I am trying to index the information I do have, and that is quite time consuming, but will be well worth the effort I hope. I have quite a bit of information, just need to get it posted so everyone else can access it.

Aunt Jennie

This info is really interesting. Jennie Fuel was my great aunt and a truly awesome person. My grandmother was Walter's sister. I wished I had started my research before she passed away and before my grandmother succombed to Alzheimers. They were very close. Unfortunately, I've had to do it the hard way, going thru trunks of information and hours on the computer.

There is some other information that you might find interesting. I don't know why Charles would have informed you he was the only son by Mary Amanday Stringer and Zach because he had two full brothers - Oscar Lee and George. I am presently communicating with Oscar's grandson and have pictures and family records showing Zach, Amanday and the three boys. All three of these boys ended up in Arkansas with their mother and I have the locations of where they are buried.

If you have any other tidbits gleaned from Aunt Jennie or other relatives, I'd love to hear about them. Thanks.

Actually, Charles might not have said that he was the only child, we just presumed that as Taylor was getting along in years, and that was the only information he sent.

I just read one of your earlier messages wanting Cleone's address. Here it is:
Cleone Hodges
Rt. 2 Box 337
Gatesville, Texas 76528
817-865-5383

This information came right out of her book. That last time I talked to her, which was a few years ago, she had only a couple of the books left. I ordered one, and she said she wasn't going to get it reprinted, but that might have all changed.

I do have some information from Jennie, and you are right, she was a very sweet person, wished I could have met her. I am sure she would have helped more but her eyesight was not good, wished I would have found her a few years sooner.

I think I found her through another Fuel, Roy C., does that sound familiar? He was out of Memphis, TENN. I will have to search through the files and see if I can find what she sent. Some of her letters were very hard to read, she had someone else write others. And of course, she had someone read my letters to her. She told me who that was, can't remember though. I did talk to her on the phone a couple of times, she was very willing to help. Unfortunately, when it comes to Genealogy, many are not interested and not willing to help.

Aunt Jennie

Roy C. Fuel was my grandmother's brother and he has been dead for several years as well as all of his 5 children. His grandkids are working with me on the genealogy.

I would love love to have copies of those letters from Aunt Jennie. Do you have a scanner? My mother would be especially excited to see them as they were very close. They corresponded at length but very rarely about family genealogy. Please email at RBK21@aol.com.

Dear Judy,

I am trying to find kin for my husband. He came from Athens Greece in 1974 to the San Francisco Bay Area. He told me of family from his grandfathers uncle or older brother (I think uncle) that came to the us to New York or Phily some eastern state. I was wondering what your relation your name & Greece has? Please let me know. You can e-mail me @ kvafeas@aol.com. Thanks. Kerrry
