Miles Ferrick, Butte, Montana Obit for 1909

I found these for this family. Miles married Johanna Hallahan.

The Anaconda Standard (Anaconda, Montana)
April 26, 1909

Miles Ferrick, Miner, is Dead at His Home

Miles Ferrick, 47 years old and a native of Ireland, died yesterday morning at 8 o'clock at his residence near the Five Mile house, having been in ill-health for several months. Ferrick had been running a little road house for some months past, but had been a miner for the greater part of the 25 hears he resided in Butte. He had a wide circle of friends. He was a widower, his wife having died 19 years ago. Surviving him are two sons, Michael, who is in the regular army and stationed in the Phillippines, and Peter, who resides in Butte. A sister is Mrs. Mary Dougherty, also of Butte. A brother, John, is in Ireland. The body will be removed to the residence of a brother-in-law, Patrick Hoolahan, 114 North Wyoming street, where the funeral will be held at 9:15 Tuesday morning, the body being taken to St. Mary's church, where a mass of requiem will be celebrated.

The Anaconda Standard (Anaconda, Montana)
March 20, 1912
Heirs Want to Know About Ferrick Estate
Patrick and Michael Ferrick, heirs of the estate of Myles Ferrick, have petitioned the district court to have John Ferns, administrator, cited into court to show cause why he has not closed up the administration and distributed the estate, which has been in court for more than two years. They say the estate is worth less than $1,500 and under the law should have been distributed to the heirs long ago.

Hi Rita,
I have an Anne Feerick b.1862 to Patrick Feerick & Bridget Madden. Anne was baptized in Ballinrobe and married to John Flanagan of Kilmaine, Mayo. I have baptism & marriage records that show the parents, god parents and wedding sponsors. She had a total of 9 children according to census report and first immigrated to the US in about 1880-1882. He was a stone cutter down around Baltimore. The family can be last seen in Ireland in the 1901 census showing John's Father David as the head of Household at 5 Caher in Kilmaine. I haven't followed the Feerick line that deeply as of yet. If you feel this is something you can use look up my family tree.
Best of Luck
Greg Flanagan

I definitely am interested in any possible connection. It has been very difficult researching anything on the Ferrick's in my mothers side of the family. All we know for sure is that our Patrick Ferrick immigrated to the United States in the second half of the 1800's from county Mayo in Ireland. He was married to Bridget, don't know her last name. He had a daughter named Anna.
Rita

Any chance he was "John Joseph" Ferrick? We lost a John sometime around 1905-1910, who was born in the Massachusetts area, to Patrick Ferrick (a brick mason from Ireland) and Josephine Rielley who was born in Scotland.
We believe that john was put on an "orpghan train" which could have gone anywhere...John was born about 1903. The older kids has been placed at an orphanage in Rolindale Mass.
I have very little information on Patrick -- but looking to tie up with other relatives of this family

Hi Jacqueline: Wish that we could help each other out, but I do not think that I have anything to bring any additional light to your inquiry. As I indicated when I first posted here in 2006, I was trying to locate connections to my SCOUT ancestry tree through finding descendants from the marriage of Anna Mary SCOUT to John A. FEIRICK, of Northumberland, PA, who may have family history handed down in connection with the SCOUT family of Northumberland Co. That sort of extended research (collateral research) into families that married into the SCOUTs has been a successful tactic for me in locating additional ancestry information on my family tree. Anna Mary Scout Ferrick had 5 children, according to Census, and three I know lived to adulthood, and only died in 1960s and 1970s though I cannot seem to locate anyone I am sure is descended from them. The Census for 1920 Northumberland Ward 2, Northumberland, Pennsylvania for family of John A. Feirick (age 53) indicates he was born in PA, and both of his parents were born in PA. I have not pursued any further research on the FEIRICK/FERRICK surname trees, as FERRICK is not my surname in a direct lineage, and is only a marriage connection that I hoped could lead me to more about the family of Anna Mary SCOUT. She is somebody's great grandmother by now!!!

One point that may be important to you sometime down the road is that in earlier Census records, one had led me astray on these particular people, with the misspelled recording of the name as TERRICK with a "T". That was probably a transcription error on that Census, but it threw me off for a long time! And if you are looking for Polish immigrants, please take heed of the fact there was a language barrier, and the phonetic spellings that English speaking ears made out of people's surnames when they spoke in a foreign accent can make it tough to find people using surname searches online. I do encounter this over and over. Thanks for getting in touch! Let me know if you ever learn that John A. Feirick fits in somewhere with yours.
Best regards, Virginia
Dear Margaret,
I'm a bit rushed at this moment so can't look up my files, but my gg grandmother was Hannorah Ferrick, also from Balinrobe, Mayo. If you contact me I'll let you know what little I have. Also - google in Ferrick Balinrobe. There's a website with a fair amount of info on the family name and lines. The name is actually limited almost entirely to Balinrobe. Check the ancestry Irish tithe lists - there are quite a few Ferricks, with their himes listed.
Cheers, Heather

I have no further inclination of her maiden name of any of my father's side of the family. I know that my father's father was born on June 28th but I do not know the year. He married a Rosemary but I do not know her maiden name. Rosemary and David had 3 children, David, Dianne, and Kris. Kris (my aunt) and David (my father) both live in Massachusetts. Dianne does not live around them but I know she lives in the U.S.
If you have any information regarding my family tree, please contact me at annaferrick@yahoo.com.
thank you

I was tracking old postings from about 1999 that might get me connections to my Cummings ancestors in Connecticut, circa 1790, and found postings by a Margaret who had an Ownbee/Ownbey in her tree, who had married a Susannah Cummings, and one of my gggfather's siblings was a Susannah Cummings who might have been named for an aunt, so I started looking for more recent postings by Margarets and found your Pierce and Bishop surnames, so hazarded a message. I have Pierces and Bishops on my maternal side, the Pierces from Vermont, as I recall, related by marriage.

If these are all coincidences, and the Ownbee posting is someone else's, thank you for your response.

People change e-mail addresses often enough that tracking down the authors of old postings takes a little luck and speculation.

Ferrick is new to me, but I have Bishops and Pierces in Sonoma and Marin that might be connections. All originated in the east

The Marin County Pierce family, of Two Rock and Pierce Point out on Pt. Reyes is a connection via intermarriage with the Colbys and Jewells of Marin County, and the Bishops are descendants of Tennessee Carter Bishop in Sonoma County near the Mendocino line. A TC Bishop daughter married a Marin County Jewell. Where were the California Ferricks located?

Earle Cummings (Susie's other half)

I only have as far as a 1910 Census, with him living in New York at that time, at 17, with parents and siblings. George B Ferrick is the oldest brother of my great-grandmother, Letitia gertrude Ferrick. I have not focused on researching him at all because my focus has been trying to find my great grandmother's and great-grandfather's trail. But 2 things--New York is certainly close enough to Pennsylvania that someone may have moved, and crossed paths if he was enlisted in service, or he may have even gone to that area after he left home. I will do some research today and tomorrow to see if I can find out more about him. This would be interesting if it is in fact, the same George. I wil stay in touch as I go along.

He was born in 1884, New York (as far as I know) I have copied the picture to examine closely. If it is the same George, he is my great-grandmothers brother. Is there any year or writing on the back?

Most lived in Rhode Island and Boston. However, it is not far from either to New York and pohiladelphia where other Ferrick were settled.
please do stay in tough with me since we can compare notes; margaretferrick@sbcglobal.net

I have a Pierce tree -- but they came from Maine to Mendocino County -- no apparent relationship to the Pierce and Bishop Families out here, altho it may be shhirt-tail relatives to my Pierce & Bishop Family -- they settled in Ukiah and one relative was the chief of police in Fort Bragg during the 1930-40's.
Ferricks came to California from Boston and New Port Rhode Island in the 1930's -- this is my husband's famiily tree -- they came out to Southern CA San Diego area. Prior to 1890's they were old world, so there isn't much to go on.
I am looking for a JOHN FERRICK who was lost to the family back east -- probably put on an Orphan Train -- about 1908-1910. He would have been very young.
Thanks for asking -- what is yourinterest??
Margaret

Thank you for your response. It answer to your question, no there is nothing written on the back of the photo.

If your George Ferrick is the same as the one in the picture, I am curious how my family met him. Do you know if your George Ferrick was in Pennsylvania, Michigan, Missouri, or Indiana? Those are the places that my family was.

An old photo of a George Ferrich was found in my grandmothers things after she passed away. My grandmother, Susan (Sleziak) Ebel lived in Lower Burrell, Pennsylvania (in a part of the city known as Kinlock). I am trying to determine if this person is somehow a relation or simple a family friend. Any information would be appreciated. Thank you.

I do not think so. Accoring to the 1860 census, he was 14 years old and born in Ireland.

Everything will fall into place when you locate an US record that will have a place of birth.
Questions add to the confusion

I am a bit intrigued by the names, in that the family I am researching [Marriage of Patrick J Ferrick and Josephine nee Rielley] began with a marriage in Newport RI about 1893.
Patrick was a brick layer. This family was broken up for unknown reasons and what can be recalled is that the youngest son went to stay with an Aunt Annie (Ferrick or Rielley?) in Rhode Island - Newport area.
Older boys went to an orphanage at Roslindale Massachusetts -- from there the Irish Orphan Train to work on farms in Eagle Lake, Maine. The two oldest boys were recovered but one boy, John, born in Boston 1903-1907, ran away and never was reunited with the family. Meanwhile, the father Patrick Ferrick, apparently died in Boston about 1912-13.
In 1931, the youngest child, Richard, traveled to Southern California and was living in San Diego CA for some time, along with a cousin named Ray Keating Jr. and a family named Trudell.
What I am wondering is if the mother's name - Josephine - was really a middle name -- as in Bridget Josephine Rielley Ferrick-- who dropped the first name for some reason and went by "Jo" or Josephine Ferrick. Patrick was born in Ballinrobe, IRE and Josephine states her birthplace as Scotland -- but a family member said she was born enroute to employment, that the Scots connection was coincidental -- e.g. her family was from Ireland.
I have not found death records for either parent yet -- known geographic areas are: Boston MA and Newport RI.
Anybody searching who knows of these surname families in the same geographic areas, please contact? Thanks for listening
