Hello,
I believe I may be able to assist you. I represent the family of Mary Katrina Closs whom married John Featherly. I have posted pic's of them via "Find A Grave" for the state of New York in Wayne County. Your citation may be located in the book "The History of Wayne County"
I also have this same paperwork.
May I assist you further in some other paperwork?
I live in New York close to Lyons.

Hello Linda,

I believe we are related. I descend from John Closs, Sr. 1748-1831 Canajoharie, NY and settled in Lyons, NY circa 1810. John's sister, Mary Katrina Closs married John Featherly in German Flats, NY 1789, shortly before making way to Lyons with the Stansell family. John & Mary buried York Settlement Cemetery.
Huron, Wayne, NY.

Vedder/Veeder were Dutch versions of the German "Vetter", meaning a distant male relative, but not the father. There appear to be at least 4 different families of Fetterly/Fetherly/Featherly in Schoharie/Mohawk/Hudson Valley areas of NY: those descended from (1) Johannis Fetterly/Vetterly of German Flats, (2) Henrich/Henry Vatter/Vetter (maybe a brother of #1) who was killed at the battle of Oriskany during the Revolution, (3) my ancestor - Philip Fetter/Vetter/Fetterly, (4) and those that descend from Lucas Fader/Vedder (a Loyalist during the Revolution). There is some conjecture that #1 and #2 are brothers. Philip Fetterly was born around the time of #1 and #2, but I've seen no connection. #4, Lucas Fader, was also around the ages of #1-#3. Interesting.

I would be thrilled to have you share your book with me. I am so excited to be making a little progress. There has been no one in my immediate family that has kept records or anything. It gets alittle frustrating not knowing where to go next.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Vivian- known to most all as Babe

I have a few early church records, should you wish. -- I descend from Nicholas and Margaret.
Dorothy Hagerty
My name is Carol Olson and please send this to me at the address following with the heading "Featherly": caolson@copper.net
In reading your message, I can definitely say that we are related. I am a great great granddaughter of Sophia Closs Featherly (1914-1883). She had an older sister Mary Featherly who was born in 1811 and died in 1850, a cripple who lived with Sophia and William Chidester and their family in Rose, NY. Sophia was the second child followed by Julia (b. 1816) and Thomas (b. 1820).
Sophia was married two times, first to John Emery and had at least 2 daughters before he was killed by the Indians in the mid 1830's. She escaped with her little girls, then married William Chidester at about 1839 and had 8 girls before 2 boys were born. My great grandmother Amelia Mercedes (nicknamed Mercy or Mert), who was born in 1842, was their oldest. Sophia and William moved to southern Michigan in the 1850's, following sister Julia and brother in law William Henry Harrison Van Akin who settled in Hudson. That was where my grandfather Irving Barkway was born--1861. He ended up in Bottineau, ND where he married grandmother Alice Murray Silvester and they had two daughters, Alice and Marion (my mother). Alice died last month at age 94 and Mom died in 2003, 51 days short of her 90th birthday.
Thanks for your attention.
Carol Olson
Hi Terry

I am Nancy Featherly from Battle Creek, MI. I have been researching my Featherly line. I have gotten back to Johannis and Elizabeth. I was wandering if you could send me a copy of the Featherly Family Book you said you have. I also have a 65 page document on the Feathers and Featherly family. Mostly the Feathers, it was sent to me from a person in Wisconsin. I am in the process of putting it in my tree, will be more than happy to send you the report when I get the information recorded. Maybe between the two of us we can find out weather or not we are related to the Feather's Clan from NY. Thank you for your time. Nancy Featherly, email me at nancyfeatherly@yahoo.com
