George Fredrick Fay b abt 1854 in Canada

A newely found cousin told me that back in 1950's a man contacted their family. He believed that George Franklin Fay may have been one of seven brothers that had escaped from Russia. When they arrived in the United States, they split up, and never planned on seeing each other again so if one was caught, the others would be safe. My George Fredrick Fay was born around 1854 in Canada, then came to Michigan. We can find no trace of him in Canada. He married Evelyn Bumps, daughter of Benjamin Franklin and Martha Rollins Bumps of Dexter Maine in Shelby Oceana Michigan on 3/24/1878.He died 1/10/1896 in Dexter Maine. He worked for Fay Scott Machinery in Dexter.I know his hair was dark and he passed his grey eyes to his son George Franklin Fay of Ft. Fairfield Maine.Any information would help. Please contact at jgenness@gmail.com

Re: Lydia Fay from Albany, New York

This is a really old posting, but I think the Barnet
Stillwell's are getting mixed up. I believe the Barnet who married Lydia Fay was in Galway,Saratoga and most accounts say that he died there around 1814 although no one has posted where he was buried. Lydia migrated to Cato, Cayuga with her daughter Fanny Stillwell Noble. Lydia is buried there. There was another Barnet around the same age who may be who you are looking at.
Hi Mary,
Thanks for your message.
Yep, I'm doing ok, hope you are too. I didn't learn about our father's death til March last year though and would like to know more about what happened.
Indeed, I traveled to England, Ireland and France on my Irish passport.
I don't know any of the Irish cousins - do you? I'd be keen to get to know them.

Melissa

I'm in NZ but visited Cavan a few years ago and had no luck finding things there but some people thought the Martins were undertakers in Cavan Town.
I would be very pleased to know more about our grandmother Bridget and find out if it is the same one.
My email address is happybee at paradise.net.nz

Many thanks,

Melissa

The Fay family history listed recently on your home page of the Fay Family Hompage is my direct line of my family. I have a lot more information - Mabel I Fay is my grandmother. You have her listed as married to Robert Ely - she was married one time before that to Leo Girouard (1927) - they had 3 children Leo (dob unknown), Rosemary (dob unknown), Victor (1932). They divorce in 1934/1935. She married my grandfather (Robert Ely) in 1935. They had 10 children - Ruth (1935), Robert (1936/1937), Barbara (my mother- 1938), Walter (1939), Richard (1940/1947), Raleigh(1940/1947), Ralph (1940/1947), Lester (1948), Rita (1951), and Edith (1953). My grandparents divorced in 1967. Out of her 13 children only a few are still living - Ruth, Barbara, Walter, Richard, Edith are the only ones still living. Ruth married 2 or 3 times and had 9 children - I do not know the years or names of her children. Barbara - (my mother) married my father(Charles Bush)in 1957 - they had 3 children - Dawn Marie (me) 5/4/59, Charles M dob 5/7/60 dd 5/8/60, and Shelley Louise dob 10/22/61 dd 10/22/61. My parents divorced in 1969 - my mother remarried two more times but never had anymore children. My mothers 2nd husbands last name was Hennebury - they divorced and her 3rd husbands name was Salvatore DeSapio - they married in 5/1979 and he passed away march of 2000. Walter married and had 3 children - Walter jr 1962, Douglas and Patricia. Richard married and had 3 sons, Lester married and had 3 daughters and 1 son, Rita married and had 3 sons - Victor, John, Adam. Edith married and had 4 daughters (2 of them were twins). There are also several great and great grandchildren but I do not know all of them. I married in March of 1982 to Michael Barwell and we had one daughter - Heather Ann. My daughter Heather Ann married in Jan of 2009 to Reese Berdanier and they had one daughter in September of 2009 - Ariana Sky. I hope this can help to be added to the Fay family homepage - We are direct descents of John Fay and Adeline (Addie Fay) through Mabel I Fay Ely.

She died 10 Dec 1881 and is buried in Goodrich Cemetery, Goodrich, Genessee, Michigan. Goodrich was known as Atlas at the time.

I know it has been over 9 years since you posted this. I am hoping that you still get these messages. I think we may be related - there is a possibility that my mother is your cousin - both my mother and myself were born in massachuetts - My mother had an Aunt Catherine (they called her Aunt Kate) and an Uncle Donald - and the years are correct. We are from Belechertown Mass. What was your mothers Married name (your maiden name). Did your mother ever live in Belechertown Mass - and could she have had another sister name either Rachel or Mabel that would have been born either in 1912 or 1913? Please email me back at my personal email address dawn.barwell@yahoo.com

Thank you for replying. Unfortunately like you, I don't have much information on Mary Fay's family. Her father was called John. Though there were quite a few Fays in Cavan so there would very likely have been more than one John Fay. Would you have an email address where I can contact you so that I can tell you what I know on Mary?

I just checked my records again, and am reminded that Elizabeth's father was John Fay and her mother was Bridget Clarke. So, it increases the possibility that Mary and Elizabeth were sisters.

I am sorry that I know very little about the Fays. It seems very possible that your Mary and my Elizabeth are siblings, since I am sure that the Fays were from Cavan. Thomas and Elizabeth named their first son John; the others were named Bridget,Patrick, Margaret, William, Rosa, Mary Elizabeth, and Thomas Joseph.

Elizabeth and Thomas lived first in Pennsylvania, then went to Kentucky (Lexington) where they settled down for the rest of their lives. Do you know what became of your Mary Fay? Did she also immigrate to the U.S. and if so where?

Yours is the first response I have ever received to my query!

You certainly seem to have the right family. Your great-grandmother had a brother called Patrick and I am married to his grandson. I didn't know about the existence of your great-grandmother, but did know that Patrick had two sisters who died in their 20s I think. He also had a sister who never married called Margaret. She kept a small shop and you can certainly find her in the 1901 Census and possibly the 1911 I can't quite remember.

I can give you more specific information but you will have to do wait a month or so as we have a lot on. I need to look up my notes.
Do you want to send me your e-mail address? It's up to you. Do you live in Ireland?
I hope this helps.

I am researching the Fay family from Cavan. My great-grandmother was Mary Fay, married to Owen Reilly in Balyhaise, Co. Cavan around 1864. Her father was John Fay. Mary died in 1909 and her obituary says that her nieces Mary Fay and Kate Fay attended her funeral. I am trying to find any connections to Mary. And in the 1901 census I found Mary and Kate Fay in Tievnamon, Cavan.

I would be delighted if you could let me know any information you have on Mary and Kate who went to New York.
John Fay is my 9th great grandfather. The line goes John, his son Samuel, his son Jeduthan and then Thomas who moved to Reading. There is fairly extensive numbers that lived in Reading and the surrounding towns.

Thomas Fay b 1755 can be found on page 174 of History of the Fay Family.

The Old Vermont Constitution House in Windsor, VT was donated by the late Collamer Fay family. Starting with John, Samuel, Samuel II, Ezra, Levi and then Collamer. His name is found on page 178.

I am always interested in more information and willing to share what I have found.
I looked up the earliest FAY's in Orlin P Fay's genealogy. The earliest THOMAS FAY is found on page 35. THOMAS C FAY born 1765, d.......nfi. He is the son of Stephen Fay4 b 1739(Susan Fiske)son of Capt.STEPHEN3(Ruth Child), JOHN2, JOHN1.

This STEPHEN4 family resided in Charlton. Some siblings stayed in Charlton, one moved to Calais, VT, many removed to Casenovia, NY and Utica, NY. The youngest of the 15 was a famous American dentist in England.

This line is not carried out at all by Orlin P Fay book. I could not find any other THOMAS FAY b. 1755 in the book. I also descend from Captain Stephen Fay3, through son JOHN4 who died in Bennington, VT in Battle of Bennington. Three sons of his located in Burlington and Richmond area of Fay's Corner. Willing to share.

I'm a direct descendant of John Fay who came to America as an 8-year-old boy. I have much information on the Fay family but in all my records I found no Thomas Fay. Of course that doesn't mean there's no tie. It just means that I haven't found Thomas. My Fays married into the Billings family (Landlord Fay had built the Catamount Tavern in Bennington, VT, as you probably know.) I'm also not familiar with Fays living in Reading. Still, there's much to research. Never ends.
Hope you get some reponses that will help you in your search. Gail (last name isn't "Fay.")

I think you're grasping at straws. Most people in the middle ages didn't have last names and my ancestor John Fay (age 8) did not come from a wealthy family. If he had, there would have been no reason for him to immigrate all by his lonesome as an indentured servant. Think about how bad life must have been back in England for his family to send him at that age to an unknown place for forever.
