I have done well tracing several generations back on the English side of my paternal heritage, but the Irish side has been extremely difficult. Any help coming from members in Ireland would be especially appreciated:
My great-grandfather Anthony James O'Farrell (1827-1913) migrated from Drumcliff, Sligo Ireland in 1851, I believe. His parents remained in Ireland, and I don't have any information other than their names, Matthew O'Farrell and Bridget Feeney O'Farrell.
He settled in East Rutland, Vermont where he married my great-grandmother Ellen Anne Dunn in 1857. She migrated there from Calry, Sligo, Ireland in 1856 with her parents Laurance Dunn and Bridget Kelly Dunn with siblings Bridget, Rich and Kerry.
Anthony and Ellen's children dropped the O from their surnames. The children born in Vermont between 1857 and 1865 were Matthew, Patrick, Bridget, Edward and Ellen. When the O'Farrells homesteaded in Oregon, Dane, Wisconsin, they had four more children: Mary, John, Margaret and Anthony. John William Farrell was my grandfather and he settled in South Dakota.
Any help you could offer me regarding the my heritage in Sligo, Ireland would be so much appreciated, and I would be more than willing to offer any help you might need on this side of the Atlantic. Please respond to my email address:
