Carol, I really appreciate your response to my info. on John Fann. Willoughby Fann (documented son of Judith Fann her lover Edward Allgood), John Fann, Jesse Fann, and William Fann are all found together in southern Virginia before they moved across the line to Bute (Warren) Co, NC in 1778/79. I believe they are all brothers, because they migrated together. Willoughby died in Warren Co. John moved to Orange Co, NC and Jesse to adjacent Chatham Co. I don't know where William was for awhile, but he is in Georgia with Jesse in the 1790s.
As for my info. on John Fann having wife/wives prior to Elizabeth, most of the information came from Frank Williams, Rt 1, Box 260, Delano, TN 37325. He had e-mail at one time, but I have not heard from him for several months. He descends from Elizabeth and her 2nd husband Capt. John Williams, Sr. He said she is buried near his home.
John's will mentions "my elder children" without naming them. The only "older child" he mentions is Malcoth aka Mark aka Macky. Malcoth moves to Tennessee.
An Elizabeth Fann is on the 1850 Polk Co, TN census who was born about 1766. John was born in the 1730s.
I am trying to put the final touches on a family history that will include the Fann/Fenn family. Jesse Fann was my ancestor and his son, George, changed the spelling to Fenn, and I descend from George.
I would love to see all that you have on John Fann and Elizabeth as well as the other members of the family.
In John's will he states that Elizabeth has the estate "as long as she is known by the name Fann". Frank Williams said she continued to use the Fenn name after marrying again was to maintain control of the estate.
Thanks for writing. Please respond to my e-mail address:
