Hello, Delia. I am related to James F Fadden and Lucinda VanDyke. They are my 3rd Great Grand uncle and aunt. I am directly related to James' brother, Abram Fadden 1823-1904 and Mary ? 1825, both from Canada.Their daughter Hattie 1872-1930 married Arnold Gibson 1862-1928, through to Clark Andrew Gibson, 1894-1984,from Vermont, whose first wife was Margaret Coyle, 1892-1974, from Ireland, through Anna May Gibson, 1916-1987, born USA, lived in Ireland, then Scotland, married Manus McFadden, 1909-1990, from Ireland, through to my mother, Margaret McFadden, who married Anthony McMillan, both born 1937, from Scotland, to me, Paul. It is funny how the Fadden/McFadden name has weaved in and out of the family tree over the years. I have found many instances of this in my searches. I have found a few other family lines, leading back to Holland.

There may be more than one Bible as someone mentioned seeing a Fadden family Bible at a reunion in NY. I was just wondering who had the Bible. My William died in Alburgh 1900 at age 80 yrs. Father listed as William and mother as Jennie Scott. He married Ann Bowker of Georgia in Isle Lamotte Dec 1962. All records say he was a stone mason. Their daughter Belle(Arabelle)was my great grandmother. He was listed as William Fadden Jr of Alburgh at this time. Ann died in 1871 and William married again to Phebe Anderson or Andress and had 3 more children. I have seen records of Faddens in Isle Lamotte in early 1800's with John the father and Nathaniel, Comfort, William and Joseph as the sons so it seem likely that my William was son of John's William. There is another William H. who I believe was son of Comfort. My William seems elusive when looking at census records and I think he moved around a lot. William, Ann and Belle were in Newport, VT in 1870 until Ann died when he and Belle moved back to Alburgh. Family stories say he went out west a lot and his parents and some brothers moved to Minnesota.

I have been paying attention; I went on ancestry during their free days last month. Here's what I've got

Helene Fadden was my great-grandmother (b. 10/3/1895, d. 3/1995) who would married Edward B. Thompson in 1925.

Helene’s parents were Edward (Jan 1867, PA) and Annie E. Feeney Fadden, born about March, 1868, married 1888. They had:
-William D
-Molly D
Leo
Helene 1895
Joseph
Edward
Gerald/Jerry C
(P Joseph Feeney (Annie's younger brother) living here in 1900) (b. 1873)

Edward was the son of Dominic(k) Fadden (1823-1825) and Bridget (Dec 1834), married in 1852 and immigrated in 1854. They had (in 1880 census)
Bridget
Mary Ann
Michael (store Clerk)
(Ellen) Ellie
Edward (1867), who was a Braker Boy in 1880
(Thomas) William 1875

In 1900 census Brigit is listed as having given birth of 11 children, 4 of which were living.

Annie E. Feeney's father was most likely Michael Feeney of Ireland (Coal Miner, 1833) was married to a Margaret (1837) had
Thomas 1863
John
Kate
Mary Ella (this would be Annie E)
Mathias/Matthew
Mary Ann
And P Joseph (which is how I connected the two families)

In 1870 the name was spelled Feney on the records; they also listed themselves as from Wales in 1870.

Her father was Michael Feeney and her mother was the Fadden whose father would have been Dominick.

So I was off a generation. But that's all I know.

Hello Stephen,

All of my earliest records for 1754 John Fadden (i.e., town records and the like) give his surname as Fadden. There are a goodly number of family trees out there that show his parents as John McFadden and Grace Liscomb. It would appear that this is based upon a "Whiting Bible" which none of the posters has seen or know who has it. While it is possible that he is indeed the son of this couple I cannot link him to them without proof.

I don't have any early records on John's brother James to whom you refer (I beieve), but his children are listed as Fadden in various town records.

I'm sorry I cannot explain John's change from McFadden to Fadden (if this in indeed the case). Fadden in Gaelic translates to Patrick, and McFadden simply means son of Patrick.

Kay F.
