Gertrude W. Eyth, 90, of Kilbuck Township, passed away Sunday, July 10, 2011, in State College. Gertude was born Oct. 30, 1920, in Pittsburgh, the middle daughter of five girls born to Gertrude (Marzolf) Ward and Joseph Henry Ward. On May 18,1946, she married William A. Eyth, in Pittsburgh. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Bill; sisters, Helen G. Speer and husband, Harry R., Edith M. Lewis and husband, Elwyn, Mary Jane Hovermale and husband, Theodore, Josephine H. Stemmler and husband, Fred; along with several other brothers and sisters-in-law. Gertrude is survived by one niece, Donna J. Coursen and husband, Jack, of Centre Hall; and four nephews, Harry J. Speer, of Pleasant Gap, Theodore F. Hovermale, of Flemington, Frederick J. Stemmler and wife, Cheryl and family, of Telluride, Colo., and William Stemmler and family, of Las Vegas, Nev. Also surviving are great-nephews, Thomas J. Coursen and family, William R. Coursen and Michael J. Speer; and great-nieces, Tara Tomrell and family and Suzanne Swart and family. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews on her husband's side of the family. After moving to Centre Hall, Gertrude thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her great-great nieces, Hailey and Ellie Coursen, and great-great nephews, Logan Coursen and Jackson Tomrell. Gertrude worked at Pittsburgh National Bank for 47 years, retiring in 1985 as the president's executive secretary. A lifelong learner, Gertrude graduated from Oliver High School in 1938, later attended Pitt and graduated from the American Institute of Banking. Gert thoroughly enjoyed history especially that of Kilbuck Township and 18th Century America. She and her husband traveled extensively throughout the US and Canada, enjoying many anniversaries in Colonial Williamsburg. Gert and Bill's passion in later years was working with miniatures and compiling an extensive family genealogy. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at ORION C. PINKERTON FUNERAL HOME INC., 1014 California Ave., Avalon, Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Interment to follow at Mt. Royal Cemetery.
