VIENNA, Ohio – Robert “Bud” Eyster Jr., 82, passed away early Monday morning, March 31, 2014, at his home following an extended illness.
Bud was born on Feb. 27, 1932, in Washingtonville, Ohio, to Robert and Kathryn (Caldwell) Eyster.
He was a graduate of Leetonia High School, Class of 1950, and went on to serve for 11 years in the U.S. Air Force before his discharge as a Staff Sergeant in 1961.
Following his discharge, Bud began his career as an air traffic controller for the Federal Aviation Administration, first at Cleveland, Ohio Hopkins International Airport and most recently for the Youngstown-Warren Ohio Regional Airport.
He retired in 1990, with nearly 30 years of service.
He was a charter member of V.F.W. Post No. 3521 in Vienna, Ohio, a lifetime member of the American Radio Relay League, and enjoyed being a Ham Radio Operator, fishing, camping, and cheering on the Cleveland Browns and the Ohio State Buckeyes.
Bud was also a longtime devoted member of the Vienna United Methodist Church for more than 40 years.
Bud leaves behind his wife of 61 years, the former Arizona Collins, whom he married on his 21st birthday, Feb. 27, 1953; three children, Lynn Sheridan and her husband, Ryan of Vienna, Debbie Johnson and her husband, Doug of Brookfield, and Bob Eyster and his wife, Kicia of Mineral Ridge, OH; five grandchildren, Leslie Konerth and her husband, Matt, Courtney Fabian and her husband, Roy, Matt Johnson, Bryanna Wilfong and her husband, Chris, and Joshua Stephens; three great-grandchildren, Ryan and Rowynn Konerth, and Noah Wilfong; and by his two sisters, Carol and Linda, both of Salem, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Twila.
Family and friends are invited to attend visitation which will be held at the Lane Family Funeral Homes, Madasz Chapel, 6923 Warren-Sharon Road in Brookfield, Wednesday, April 2, 2014, from 6 to 8 p.m. The Rev. Cathy Ake will celebrate Bud’s life on Thursday morning, beginning at 11 a.m. at the Vienna United Methodist Church, 4265 Warren-Sharon Road Vienna, OH 44473.
Burial will follow at Vienna Township Cemetery.
