Old Wound Causes Loss of Limb
Veteran Injured in Civil War Has Leg Amputated as Result
A wound received fifty seven years ago at Winchester, Virginia, during a battle of the Civil War, caused the amputation of the leg of Andrew Sites, formerly of Fairfield in the Fort Leavenworth Hospital, Kansas, recently. Although the veteran is in his eighty-fourth year, he has rallied from the operation and there are bright hopes for his recovery. Two brothers, both veterans of the Civil War, John and George Sites, reside near Fairfield.

Mr. Sites was wounded while fighting in the campaign through Virginia with the Union Army in '63. While in one of the minor engagements he was wounded in the leg which disabled him for the remainder of the war. He completely recovered from the wound, however, and it has only been recently that it gave him any trouble. Surgeons decided the amputation was necessary to save the life of the aged veteran.
