The Exposito's were orphans in Spain and the Canary Islands, "casa cuna de expositos" is what you will find it means "House Cradle of the Abandon". The tough part is trying to find your Exposito ancestor's parent. As with Richard (who is my brother) our G-G-Grandfather was born in Spain, his parents died shortly after birth and he was given up to the "casa cuna". He worked on a ship at around 12, 13 or 14 y/o and ended up in the Canary Islands. From the Canaries he ended up in Pinar del Rio around 1900-1905. Like my brother said earlier he married(not official)and had about 7-8 kids. However he did not fight in the Spanish War. The story I heard also mentioned that all Exposito's from Cuba are related (blood relatives). Now I would love to know what ship Marcelino or Celino was on from the Canary Islands and what orphanage did he possibly live in while residing in the Canary Islands. One of his sons was Hemeniado Exposito who married Jauna Alvarez in Cuba and had my grandfather Bernardino Exposito.
