Looking for anyone related to Maurice Exiner. I have an original certificate of "Appointment to Captain, Medical Corps" signed by the Assistant Secratary of War, Benedict Crowell, dated October 11, 1919. From that date I would place hi birth about 1895-1898. I am not researching the Exiner family. I came by this certificate by the death of a family member. There are no exiners known in m family. I'd just like to return this certificate (in very good condition) to an exiner decendant.

I read your posting with interest. Unfortunately it is about 2 years later. I certainly hope that you have the document you mentioned.
My grandfather, Abraham Reubenstone had a sister who married Maurice Exiner's father i.e. Maurice was his nephew (a well known fact in the family). I use a letter opener that belonged to him with an "x" on it that was given to me by my mom.
It would be quite a surprise if that document still existed.
Thanx,
LHT

Hello Lawrence

You mention that Maurice Exiner's father married your grandfather's sister.

We are the Australian branch of the Exiner family. We are descended from Leopold Exiner (my great grandfather) who was born in Posen (then Germany, now Poland) in 1845 and died in Berlin in 1908. Our family legend is that Leopold had a brother who emigrated to the USA in the 19th Century. But noone knows what his name was.

Today I discovered, on this site, a Moritz Exiner who emigrated from Posen in 1857, aged 23.

Do you have any more information about Maurice's father? Given the similarity of the names, I am wondering whether this Moritz may have been Maurice's grandfather (or even father though he would have been in his 60s).

I hope I will hear from you.

Best wishes

Ron Exiner

Ron:
Very glad to hear from you. Their are only a few remaining relatives who might know more about the Exiner family. I'll get in contact with them in the near future. Meanwhile, keep in touch.
