Hi William, can you tell me some more. Who were your Exelby grandparents? Do you know some birth dates? Lloyd is a name that has been used in the family several times.

Hi June,
I posted a message a while ago, but posted it
as a new message by accident instead of a
reply (so you weren't notified).
I have John & Naomi on my family tree as well.
They came to Canada in 1834.
John was born March 15, 1797, died March 7, 1862.
Naomi was born Sept. 5, 1810, died May 20, 1887.
They were married Dec. 11, 1827 in Bugthorpe
Yorkshire.
Their first three children (George, Robert &
William) were born in Bugthorpe. The
rest were born in Ontario. My gggrandfather is
their son Joseph, born Dec 5, 1845, died Oct 1, 1917.
Would you happen to have any information on where
in Ontario they settled, what did John do for
a living, etc?

John Naomi

Great to hear from you.
I believe that John was a farmer. I found a land grant to him at Windham ON
My family are from Robert's line.
I would be happy to share my info with you. The only thing that I have about Joseph is that he married Annie Mason at Windham on 21 January 1868.

I have details of Exelbys in Cumbria from mid 19th Century to present day. I think I have traced them back to Thorganby,
Yorkshire E.R. in the 1851 Census, but need to get back further on this line if possible. Can we swap info?

I don't know if this will help, but I've found a marriage between William Exelby and Esther Wilson in Thorganby, Yorkshire on November 29, 1794.
They may be the parents of John Exelby (born 1797) who married in 1827 in Bugthorpe Naomi Hutchinson (born 1810 in Thwing, Yorkshire)and emmigrated to Canada in 1834.
Does this help you? Can you possibly shed more light on William and Esther?

Thanks for your reply. This William may well also be the father of Edward Exelby (born at West Cottingwith, Thorganby, in 1802. I will certainly investigate this and also any connection with Bugthorpe. Edward's eldest son was called William, which may be significant. Thanks again for your help.
