I am researching my family which had its roots in Sussex UK and then Mitcham in Surrey and a branch that appears to have moved to Ashford in Kent. Early members include Benjamin b. 1741 Sussex his son Hezekiah b. 1774 married Ann Crunden in Buxted. Their son Bejamen b. 1811 Southover Lewes. His son Samuel b 1846 also Lewes. The family then moved to Mitcham. His son is then William b. 1871 and then my father Norman b. 1912

I would be interested to hear from anyone who can fill in any blank spaces!

To Richard Excell - My name is Robert Excell. I believe that I am one of your relations. My family lived in Mitcham for many years and have now moved to Morden Surrey. My father's name was Charles George Excell, and his father was named Charles also. My father spoke of a relative named Norman. He has now died but has two brothers William and Reginald living on the Isle of Wight. He also had a sister Beatrice. I have a brother with two sons. I would be interested to communicate further on the e-mail address (rcexcell@yahoo.com).
meanwhile I will attempt to find more details. Is it possible that my father's father had a brother and their father was the William (1871) mentioned in your message???

Surnames: Excell
I have been tracing my Grandmother's family history and have traced it back to Hezekiah Excell from Lewes. She was born in Ashford, Kent to Frederick William Excell who was the son of Frederick Richard Excell b 1849, Camberwell. His father was Hezekiah Excell b. 1816, Southover, Sussex and I think that his father was also Hezekiah Excell b. 1774, Lewes. I suspect we are therefore related very distantly.

Do you have any information before this? If so, please email me and I can give you lots of information on the Ashford branch.

Yours

Clive Paget

Dear Clive. Thanks for the message. Yes I think we must be related. Your Hezikiah bn 1816 had a brother Benjamin bn 1811 - my relative. I can take you back further if interested. I would very much like to know about the Ashford connection. Presume this is the Hezekiah=Caroline Hobbs Camberwell marriage 1840? This was his second marriage. I think that the family were involved with the railways at Ashord - an industry that another part of the family became involved in.

Richard. I have several Hezekiah Hobbs in the Rotherhithe area. Hezekiah Hobbs married Catherine Beach in 1840 St.Georges in the East. They had sons Hezekiah and Henry.

Are these of any interest.

Hi

I know this is an old thread but if you are still interested in researching this family line I'd love to compare notes. I am decended from Frederick William Excell (though we always thought it was Exell) and his daughter Lottie Jane.

I have quite a bit of information on Frederick and his decendants if you are interested.

You can e-mail me on lizzi@dizzi.org

I realise that this thread is now at least 4/5 years old!

I've been researching my sister-in0law's family and have traced one branch back to a Hezekiah AXELL (sometimes spelt EXCELL or AXCELL) buried in Heathfield, Sussex in 1859 aged 81, which makes his birth year 1778.

His wife was Ann (surname not known) and they had a son John AXCELL, born 1805 in Heathfield who married Tryphena Haffenden in 1827.

I'd be very interested in any links or further information.
