I have a Henry Joseph Holland Exall in my family tree. Married to Sarah and the father of my great-grandmother Clara Elizabeth Exall (1844 -1893). I would be grateful for any further information on this family.

Many thanks
Gillian

Hello Gillian.I live in the West Midlands and I have info on this line of Exalls.
One of Henry Joseph Hollands sons was my G.G.Grandfather and lived in Maesteg in Glamorgan. His name was Henry also and he had a son William who is my G.Grandfather. William was a steward of a social club and was tragically burnt to death in a fire at 13 Commercial St, Maesteg. Williams' son, Albert was my late grandfather. Please e mail me if I can be of any further assistance.I'd love to know a little more about H.J.H EXALL if you can help.Thanks.

I've just got started with RootsWeb and have found this link.

Gillian, who replied to an earlier link and I are related.

I am the ggg-daughter of Henry Joseph Holland Exall. His daughter Clara Elizabeth was my GG-mother.

If you do have a tree, I would like to have a look at it please.

Regards
Anne

Hello,
I think I,ve spoken to you before. We share Henry I believe but I've never had any definite leads any further back than that. Please could you share your information about Henry Joseph Holland? This is all new to me. Looking forward to adding a new extension to my existing tree.

Hello Gillian,
After all this time just noticed your reply on the board. Don't know whether I replied at the time but I am very interested in the Henry Joseph Holland connection. Henry was my g-g-g grandfather and my searches had led me to believe that he could be the son of a Henry (possibly Joseph) Exall but that's all I knew. Would love to hear more about this family so that I can add another extension (attic) to my tree. Will share any information about my branch.

Dear Annette,
HJH Exall was my ggmother's father. HJH Exall was married Sarah ?? My ggmother, Clara Exall, married a Charles Ferguson, who we think lodged as a young man in Sarah Exall's house along with my ggrandfather.

Clara had a son, Alfred Francis Ferguson, who was brought up by Clara's sister, Almeira. Charles disappeared and my ggranddad stepped in and "married" her, they went on to have several more children. Anne Jones, who has previously corresponded with you is my cousin and is directly descended from Alfred Francis Ferguson who later took the family name Jones. He was also a painter and died when the roof he was painting in Charing Cross station collapsed.

The family story is that HJH Exall painted the ceiling in St Paul's cathedral. I don't know if Anne has added to her tree recently, but it may be worth you taking a look because Anne is much more efficient than me. If we do find out anything more about HJH Exall's ancestors we will let you know.

Best wishes
Gillian

Thanks Gillian,
Have you proof that HJH had a son also called Henry? This would then prove that we are connected. As it is, HJH is nothing more than a possibility for the role of father of Henry, unproved. By the way, you mentioned your sister's tree, please could I have access to it?
Thanks again,
Annette

Hi again Annette,
I am sorry I can't prove that HJH Exall had a son called Henry. I only know of Clara, Almeira and Elenor. I note that my HJHE married Sarah Salmon on 22 October 1839 at St Peter Walworth and by the time of the 1861 census Sarah was widowed.

I will ask my cousin, Anne, if you can look at her tree. I believe that she belongs to Ancestry whereas I don't.

Best wishes
Gillian

Hi again Annette,

My cousin, Anne Jones, tells me that her tree is publically available on Ancestry under "Exall". She says that HJH Exall did have a son called Henry and his baptism is registered in Phillpots along with all the other children. She also says that the family was orginally called "Hexall".

Anne suggest that if you belong to Genes Reunited you can contact her through that.

I hope this helps.
Best wishes
Gillian
