Hi Glenys
Your message is the best family news I've had in ages. We are distant cousins.

My g g g grandparents were Caleb and Anne (nee Allison)Ewington.

Caleb and Anne's son James (Maria's brother) born 1836 is my g g grandfather. He married Ann Harriet Green of Welwyn. They emmigrated to NZ in January 1874 aboard the ship Wennington. They brought 4 kids with them: Joseph Charles James, Kate Lydia, Henry Louis, and Caleb Arthur. They had 4 more kids in NZ: Ada Annie, Robrt George, Alfred James and Robert James.

Caleb Arthur is my great grandfather. He married Katherine Barry from Cork and had 3 boys: Caleb Arthur (Arthur), Jack, and Henry Harrold (Harry).

Jack is my Grandad. He married Leonie Barbara Udy and they had 3 kids: William (Bill), Julie and Alan.

Bill is my dad and I have a 7 year old son called Harry Jack.

James settled in Masterton NZ and started a foundary. He was also a wheelwright, coachbuilder and engineer. Caleb and his brother Joseph Charles (JC) also worked in the foundary.

I'm still in Masterton as are my parents and some cousins from the same line. I'm really keen to find out more information about the ancestors of Caleb born 1807 in Codicote Herts died 1879, and Ann Allison. My email is blairewington@yahoo.com so please feel free to email me with any info you might have or even just to say hi to a distant cousin.

Regards
Blair Ewington

Hi Andrew? You would probably be the most ignorant EWINGTON in the entire world, they were from Hertfordshire, earliest info 1500's. There are over 5,000 Ewington's in phone book in the U.K and Scotland, over 500 in New Zealand and over 2,000 in Australia. Uncanny resembelance? Thats pretty ignorant dont you think? EVERY person with the same surname in the world is related. You must be fairly young to be so uninformed. Thats why we have computers :o)

http://www.surnamedb.com/surname.aspx?name=Ewington

Thanks, Karen.
I don't know whether you know or not but I'm in Toronto, Canada. My father immigrated here in 1950. My parents are dead and I've lost touch with the family over there. My eldest son is the one doing our tree, a daunting task given how little we know about the family.

On the Ewington side, my grandfather's brothers were, I believe, Charley (possible nickname Wag) and Jack, and I think their wives were Flora and Doris (or Dora). The last address for my grandparents was on Causeyware Rd, Edmonton, London, N9. My fathers' half siblings were Alan, Ken and Grace. None of them had children of their own, although Alan and Kathy adopted three children. I know I have cousins on the Ewington side but know very little about them.

My father kept his Mother's name, Newman, hence the disconnect.

I hope this helps you with your own inquiries.

Best regards,

Cliff

hi cliff, thanks for your reply, i am an ewington by marriage, but i`m the one that has done the tree, i will ask around the family if any one has heard about anything like this, our ewingtons come from hertfordshire ,but now live in surrey, and the name fredric is very common in our tree, with fathers being named after sons etc,our fredrics have been great grandads brothers, you can contact me at carl.ewington@ntlworld.com , and i will send you some dates places and other info, and we can see if theres a match somewhere as ewington is an unusual name, regards karen

Hi Karen,

You've answered my question: I was actually asking if you were the adopted daughter of Alan and Kathy Ewington of Edmonton, North London. Alan was my father's half brother and Alan's father was Fred Ewington, who adopted my father when he married Ida Newman (Ida Ewington) my grandmother.

We have a rather unusual situation in our family in that my grandmother and two of her sisters married Fred Ewington and two of his brothers. Most people find difficulty in keeping that part of the family straight.

Thanks for getting back to me. I would be interested in knowing if any of this story sounds familiar among your family members. My grandmother was born in 1902 and was younger than my grandfather but I don't have any of his dates. I'm in my 60s so none of this is recent history.

Best regards,

Cliff

Bob,
I believe it is possible that your great grandmother Hannah and my great grandmother Louisa were sisters. Try checking out the 1861 census Britsh census. Father David Ewington (widower) with his children Amelia, Louisa, Betsy, Martha, Eliza, Daniel and Hannah all live in Hertfordshire. From an earlier census: there is also a son Joseph; David's wife was Ann.

Not got much clue as to the rest of my family - my dad's dad is a bit of an engima and the trail goes cold after that - so unless anyone out there can trace further than my father (David John Ewington - Essex) I'm a bit stuck. He was born I think in East London if that helps?

Hello Mark:

I saw your posting on the message board at ancestry.com, and thought I would write to inquire whether you know a Leslie or Isabel Ewington. I grew up in Calcutta, India during the 1950's and Isa and Leslie were our neighbors. We were great friends. But, my family returned to the States in 1957 and I believe their family returned to the UK.

I'd like very much to get in touch with them.
My great great grandmother was Maria Ewington she was one of ten children born to Caleb and Anne ( Allison ) from Welwyn. Hertsfordshire. England.

Maria was born in 1828 and married James biggs in London in 1848. They had two children William 1850 and Emily in 1852 both babies died within their first week.

James and Maria emigrated to Australia in 1853 arriving at Portland in Victoria on board the ship The Duke of Richmond.

There are many descendants in Victoria and I have their full history.

Is there any connection with your Ewington family ??

regards
Glenys Pollard
Australia.
