Franz Josef Ewens was born about 1899; Cologne, Germany, was his native city. He had doctorates in both music and law. 1925-1945 he was a music critic in Berlin, where he worked for Scherl Publishers. He and his family (wife, son born about 1935, daughter born about 1945) returned to Cologne after WW2 and lived in Cologne-Deutz. Until 1973 he was editor-in-chief of the newspaper "Deutsche Sängerbundeszeitung".
