Looking for information on Elizabeth Ewart, DOB around 1880. Came to US originally in 1907, but did travel back to Ireland, sailing from Queenstown and arriving in U.S. Sept 1910. Married November 1910 in NY to Thomas Bell, also from Ireland. Died October 1918 in NYC.

Hello from Australia Do you know where in Ireland, Elizabeth was born or the names of her parents or more importantly her grandparents? My great grandfather ROBERT EWART was born in Ireland in 1830 - I presume Northern Ireland. He moved to Glasgow before 1852 where he married and had 7 children including my grandfather. Robert's parents were JAMES EWART and JANET HILL. Elizabeth was a common name in our branch of the family. I am wondering if your Elizabeth's ancestors were related to Robert. I am finding research in Ireland to be VERY difficult. Dale Margaret(nee Ewart)

I don't have much information...all I know was that she was from the area of Limerick and possibly had a cousin named Matilda. She named one of her daughters Lucille, so I'm thinking more than likely someone in her family or her husband's was named Lucille.

thanks for your reply. Obviously no connection as my Ewarts were almost certainly from Northern Ireland and none of those christian names are familiar.

That is very interesting. Perhaps there is a connection. As I said I find it very difficult to trace Irish records. I feel almost sure that my great great grandfather was born in Antrim, Armagh or Down. I had always thought my heritage was purely Scottish, so it came as quite a shock to discover that Robert Ewart was born in Ireland. He was quite a disreputable character, frequently umemployed and frequently sent back (returned)to Ireland because in those days the county where you were born was responsible for poor relief. My grandfather, father and his siblings migrated to Australia in 1912 and there was no mention of any Irish connection. They nearly went to America on the Titanic.

A codicil (11 Nov 1913)to the will of James Ewart late of Tullycallidy County Armagh in Northern Ireland refers to his daughter, Matilda Jane Ewart, a nurse, residing in New York City, could this be the same Matilda to which you refer. I understand that there were other connections who resided in Dublin. I am related to James through my mother whose maiden name is Ewart.
