Both Eckert and Thom are outstanding writers of books about the Old Northwest Territory and things West of the Atlantic.

Draper was an old historian whose collection of interviews, diaries, and historical documents the authors base a lot of their writings on.

I will examine Draper's book on D. Boone for Sheriff Samuel Ewalt (or any others).

Thanks! If I remember the book correctly, the man Sheriff Sam Ewalt arrested was a Brady (Sam?), of Brady's Rangers fame. He arrested this famous Indian fighter and frontier hero for....killing an Indian! You can imagine that it was a difficult arrest to make, with local support and sympathy running extremely high for Brady.(I could be wrong about the name Brady. It's been a while since I read the book).

Dear Tony,

I think you are right. The Ewalds in my life have always been a very principled people.

Does anyone know if our roots were Catholic, Mennonite, Brethern or Methodist? My immediate ones were Methodist and Mennonite. But some were also Catholic rumored to once have been Jewish (but converted because of political and religious persecution.) I remember my grandfather never ate pork and walked to church and all meals were prepared the day before. (No work on the Sabbath.) Oh, and no electricity on the Sabbath. He was very strict about this. He finally broke his rule during WW II because he felt his working in the foundry on the Sabbath would be forgiven because Tojo and Hitler were so evil and had to be stopped. Also his sons were fighting in the South Pacific. He really struggled with this until he made his decision.

Oh, I have Samuels in my Ewalds. My ended up in Clark Co., Jackson Co. IN, Louisville, and MO.

I am not familiar with Solomon Kellar, but my
gggg grandmother was married to a Kellar before
she married my gggg grandfather, Henry Ewalt,
after Kellar died. The Kellar, Ewalt, and Frye
families as well as the Stamps, Spears, and
Metcalfe families were all in Bourbon Co., KY.
I know that she had one son that they raised.
The name, like many others, was spelled both ways.
I hope this helps you some at least on the
families in Bourbon Co., KY. If I can be of
any other help to you let me know.

My wife's grtgrtgrtgrtgrtgrandfather was Samuel Ewalt who became the 2nd sheriff for Allegheny County, PA from 1792 to 1795. I don't know which years this book is covering, but maybe this info would help identify the sheriff mentioned.

I believe there is also another child in this family, which would be by grandfather, Joseph H. Ewalt, born October 16, 1875,died January, 1923. He died before Samuel B. He married Elma Current (born December 16, 1887). Do you know if this is correct??
