August Ludwig Ewald came to Milwaukee in September 1863 from Canada with his sister Emilie Tugenreich (Bertha) Ewald. Emilie married Karl Otto in 1864 in Milwaukee. August married Augusta Luedtke Stark, a widow, in 1874. We believe August and Emilie had a brother Karl Ewald who came to Canada after 1863 and stayed there. Their father was John Ewald (a teacher) and their mother was Charlotte Vogt.

My EWALD family came to Ottawa, Canada about 1862 and then traveled to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA by September 1862. I'm afraid I don't have any information on the family back in Germany. The town that was listed on the marriage certificate, Telschow, cannot be found. Prussia was the other common name used for where they came from. Sorry.

In case it's helpful to anyone's Ewald research, Augusta Luedtke Stark Ewald's death notices are found in the local German newspapers. There are also death notices for an August Ewald in 1924. Emilie Ewald Otto's death notices were published in these papers, and there several different Carl/Karl Otto's to choose from (depending on when he died ;-)
These are some of the approx. 75 Ewald and almost 400 Otto entries or references found in the library resource "Milwaukee's German Newspapers; an index of death notices and related items" (1844-1950). These newspapers and the index are not online. The library version is sadly out-of-date 8-(

I am looking for Ewald relatives. They came from Germany. First they lived in Stein by Phorzeim then moved to Neustadt by the river. My grandparents - Theophil Ewald and Caroline Herzog Ewald came to America sometime between 1903-1907 and moved to Hebron, ND. I believe we already had Ewald relatives living in Ohio or Indianq (maybe Iowa) area. Does anyone know of any of these Ewalds that are still alive?
