Cpl. Cook...the Viking story is apparently true. It seems that there were 2 Viking brothers, sons of the Viking King Milesius, who were sent to take over the "Isle of Destiny" (Ireland). Their agreement was whoever touched land first would have the right of selection over the portion of land that he was to rule. When one of the brothers saw that the other brother was getting ahead of him, he cut off his left hand and tossed it on shore making him the winner and therefore getting his choice of what part to rule. He then started the clan of O'Neill's. (I'm guessing that his name was Neill thus "The Kingdome O(f) Neills"
The above was supplied to me by the geneology historian O'Hart.
My strain comes from the Ottawa Valley so I can't help you very much with the Newfoundland Clan.
It's a pretty neat story (legend) if it's really true, don't cha think???
