My great-grandmother was Maria Evola, formerly Maria Zerelli. She was married to Guiseppi Evola and as far as I know they lived in Cinisi, a small town in Sicily, close to Palermo. Guiseppi had 4 brothers/sisters, Salvatore, Giovanna, Giovanni and Giacamo. I know all this just because my grandpa, Salvatore Evola, wrote this book about his family history and gave me this family tree. Guiseppi's parents were Guiseppi Vitale and Salvatore Evola. I don't really know many stories about Guiseppi and Maria, all but two. While living in Cinisi, they had a child named Guiseppa who died when she was a few years old. In Sicily they have big celebrations were they cook alot of food. Young Guiseppa pulled a pot of bioling water on her head and burned to death. And it says on the pedigree that they had an unnamed child but I have no knowledge of this. Salvatore is my grandfather. Maria was pregnant with him while she came over to America. As far as I know, Guiseppa had some ties to the Italian Mafia, and got into a fight about costs about illegal liquor he was smuggling through the US border, and was shot and killed when my grandfather was 2. Maria was abandoned by the Mafia and became very poor. To raise my grandpa, she took up being a seamstress and lived off of that. She made dresses for my mom and her sister all the time when she was alive. My grandpa grew up in Michigan with his cousin Leonard who was from the Zerelli side. He belived Leonard to be his brother for years. They used to lay pennies on the train tracks for fun as children. I've been to this house. So thats basically all I know about my family history for now. There are still many of the Zerellis living in Michigan, my Grandfather lives in Colorado. If you have anything to say about this, then please email me!
