I'm struggling with Evamy's from around Southampton and around Wimbourne. In particular I'm interested in John and Richard (and their relationship if any. Any other researchers out there?

John

Hi
My maiden name was Evamy and I live in Southampton. My brother Richard lives in Hampshire.
Our father came from Stockton on Tees and thanks to the help of many have found our great great great grandparents who came from Dorset.

Does this help?

Hi Maureen - have recently read your message - 2006. I have been researching the Evamy family and have come to a full stop. My grandfather was Harry Heather Chick his mother was Mary Heather and her mother was Emily Evamy - the daughter of - I think - Richard Evamy born - I think - in Dorset Would love to gain more info on Richard but always come to a dead end. Would appreciate any info on this subject. Regards Brian Reynolds.

Hi Mary and Brian

A problem area indeed! Was Emily's father John or Richard Evamy - records are inconsistant, but family memory is that he was John, confirmed by the childhood ink sketch by Sir John Millais of his grandfather John Evamy. Were they one and the same person? This Millais connection is confirmed by family papers I have inherited.

I'm also confused by two apparent sisters - Emily Mary (1791-1896), who married into the Millais family, and Emily (1804-1831). Certainly Brian and I are descended from the Emily who died in 1831 (in Demerera (now Georgetown, Guyana), again, confirmed by family papers.

Cheers

John

Hi Brian

Not sure if I can help but withe the help of others I am back to Joshua Evamy (Coastguard born in Ringwood in 1771)he was married twice, his second wife was Hannah Lawrence who was born in Swanage. This branch of the Evamy's then moved to the north of England (producing 6 children)where the rest of my research comes from. I have a brother Richard who lives in Hampshire, but our father was also born in the north of England.
It is such an unusual name that we must be connected sometime back.

Do you belong to Friends/Genes Reunited - if you do I am happy for you to view my family tree.

Please let me know if I can be of any help.

My direct e mail address is maple_dutton@yahoo.co.uk

My ancestor William Lance married Elizabeth Evamy in Blandford Forum in 1732. She died in 1738, and William then promptly married Sarah Evamy. I assume that these Evamys were sisters, but I know nothing more about them except that they came from Tarrant Monkton (which is not far from Wimborne).

Have you made any progress on the Evamys since you posted that query in 2006? I would be very interested to make a connection that led to more information about the Evamy family.

Chris Lance

Sorry, no progress I'm afraid, and no Lances in my records.

Best regards
