Hello Robert,

I am an Ewton decendant through Caswell Jefferson Ewton. I'm trying to find verification that Caswell P.olk Ewton's wife was a Potter. What source documents do you have that confirms her as a Potter (daughter of William Potter and Nancy Kirby/Kerby)?

I don't know if this helps, but I wonder if this woman's name might be Lydia Ewton. The Ewton's lived in the sequatchie valley (Marion, Seqatchie and Bledsoe Counties) in Tennessee during the 1800's. Lydia was a common name among the girls. There is only one Ewton man I know of born in Alabama that would be the right time to possibly be her father. His name is Sampson Ewton. He was born in Cherokee Co. Alabama in 1838. His father, Caswell Polk Ewton and mother Elizabeth (Potter) Ewton left Tennessee to go to Alabama for a few years, then they returned to the sequatchie valley. I think they went to Alabama to try to take some of the land the Indians were giving up during the Indian Removal and Trail of Tears during the 1830's. The only problem is that no one knows anything about Sampson Ewton, who he married, where he died, or any of his children. I looked at the census records you referred to, and it looked like it had her name as "Liza" and born in TN. Perhaps short for Elizabeth, Sampson's mother. So, a name like Lydia Elizabeth, or vice versa sounds like a name an Ewton family member might have. If Sampson was born in 1838 and Jim Young and Lida were born about 1880, Lida would have been born abt. 1860, when Sampson was about 22 yrs old. It all sounds right to me.

If this happens to be the case for you, Caswell was born in 1807 and Elizabeth Potter was born abt 1814. Both were born in Tennessee. Elizabeth's mother was named Nancy Potter and she was born about 1774 in Virginia.
Caswell's father was named James Ewton (we think) and he was born in N.C. or Kentucky and his mother was named Rebecca (Parker) Ewton and she was born in Virginia. They were married in 1800 in Knox Co., TN.

Caswell was the oldest of James and Rebecca's Children. Followed by brother, Albin b. 1810 (who actually became the head of the family), and sisters Hulda b. 1813, Alice b. 1817, and Lydia b. 1820. All were born in Tennessee.

This may not be your Lida Euton at all, but it sounded familiar when I looked at it. You might look up some of the census records for Caswell's family and see if any of the names there were repeated in your family. I hope this helps.

ken i do not know who you are, but i am the neice of cornelius euton who has been nicknames dutch all of his life. he is 70 years plus in age and lives in heber springs ark. please contact me so we can determine where we are related . my name is denise washam and am the daughter of dolline euton and my grandfather was charlie joseph euton. i have long list of relatives and their information and pictures. thanks dee

Looking for information on the Euton family near Cumberland Co, Kentucky around 1880.

Family bible states that my great grandfather James "Jim" Young married a "Lida Euton" about 1880 or so. I could barely make out the handwriting and have hit a brick wall with both of them.

can someone verify that there was a Lida Euton, around this time.

The two would later move to Monroe County on the 1900 census near Pea Ridge, across McMillians ferry, possible near Blacks Ferry. James and Lida both dissapear prior to the 1910 census.

They had three sons : Evans born 1881, William (married Belle Harris) b. 1883, and John Henry born about 1886.

Any info on Lida, James, would be appreciated. Cemetery? Burial Site? marriage date, info on their parents, etc.

Evangline Euton is my Great-Great Grandmother. She married Thomas Evans and had a daughter Arminta Evans (B:1-15-1877)who married Lewis Davis. Lewis's brother Samuel married Anna Euton. I believe Anna had a brother Wesley. I do not know how everyone is related and would appreciate any help on this family.
