According to the 1940 census of Enumerator District 33-31, March Field U.S. Air Base, Perris Township, Riverside County, California, recorded on Sheet 33-A/page 628, Line Number 37; Enumerator Henri E. Hoppe recorded on 08 April 1940 the household comprising newly promoted Lt.Col. Eugene L. Eubank, USAAC, commanding officer of the 19th Bombardment Group (Heavy); comprising Boeing B-17B bombers & Douglas B-18/B-18A bombers.
At time of this census recording, Lt.Col. Eugene L. Eubank was involved with the transition of the 19th BG(H) from "twin-engine bombers to four-engine bombers". Additionally, he was selected to lead the first flight of B-17D bombers from Hamilton Field, Novato Township, Marin County CA to Hickam Field U.S. Air Base/Hawaiian Department, Oahu Island, Territory of Hawaii. This flight comprising 21 x B-17D bombers departed Hamilton Field on 13 May 1941; arriving early morning 14 May.
