Originally from south London, England my parents (John Joseph Etchell-dob 1915 & Elsie Ada Hatch-dob 1917)divorced when I was born (1941)and have had no contact with my fathers family. On searching the net for poss. relatives and ancestors I came across James Etchell who was on the 1843 Oregan Trail Trek, he registered a land claim in Yamhill County in Feb 1847, poss. using the name Getchell.
I would be grateful if anyone can supply details of any of the above.
ps. Belated best wishes for 2001 to everyone.

Interestingly enough, my dad (Thomas Robert) Etchell was born in South London in 1921, the youngest of several children. I only know that we had an Uncle charlie (Charles). I believe they came from the battersea area of south London. It would be interesting to know more....

My grandfather was called Charles Etchells and he was b 1885. I do not know where he was born but know that his family were English His father was also called Charles Etchells, b 1852 in England. Charles sen. was a millworker in Dundee in 1901. His wife Eliza was born 1865 in Ireland so he probably came to Dundee with immigrant workers to work and live in an area of Dundee called Tipperary He had 8 children.
Charles b 1885
Thomas b 1886
Maggie b 1884
Annie b 1892
Julie b 1893
Edward b 1895
William b 1893
Samuel b 1900
I think that the 3 elder children were not those of Eliza, as I know that William was a stepbrother of my grandfather

I am looking for a Great Grandfather of mine also called Charles Dunbar Etchells who I believe was born 1882-1885. I am wondering if it may be the same one as the one of the children of your Charles Etchells. I already know quite a lot about my Charles Dunbar Etchells inc that he was a Captain in WW1 with the Welsh regiment and a Barclays bank manager after WW1. I know more and I am happy to share if you think we are talking about the same man.
If we are, I would like to know more about his father, Charles Etchells.
