For anyone interested in more Towne ancestry information, there is the Towne Family Association at townefolk.com. Their database has more than 76,000 people and over 26,000 families. I have started a facebook group called "Towne Cousins." We currently have 114 members - I added 4 today. Send me your email if you cannot locate the FB page. Christopher Esty is my 9th GG.

I am most interested in finding out more from the time of
Johnathan R. Esty who married to Mary Ann Nichols about 1862
Their children were Joseph F.A. Esty and Mary Esty.

My information about Johnathan and Mary Ann is fuzzy.
Mary appears in the 1870 Census without Johnathan but with the children. Mary was born in MA but both children were born in New York. Jonathan was married to Elvira Smith in 1838 and Hesibah Pride Trask in 1845. I haven't been able to find a marriage record for Johnathan and Mary Nichols but they are referrenced in other documents.

Joseph Esty was also married 3 times. When he met his second wife Katie Kent (my great grandmother) he changed his name to BLAIR. His third wife was Nellie. Her maiden name may have been Welch but that could also be a surname of her previous husband.

Terri, this is my line of ancestors. I even met with your mom Joyce and your aunt Joann in Jeffersonville about 10 years ago. I have all the information you need. I'm surprised your mom didn't tell you this. My ggreat grandfather was David Kirkpatrick Este, his son Washington Irvin moved to Ohio, and his other son David Franklin moved to West Virginia. Susan Estey d/o Nancy jane Rathburn & Richard Estey m. David Briggs. I believe it is quite possible that their daughter Mabel Briggs m. Benjamin Appleby s/o John Appleby & Mary Ann Briggs. I believe Mary Ann Briggs is the d/o William Briggs & Ann Fitzgerald. Mary Ann Briggs daughter Susan Ann Appleby was my gr-gr grandmother. She m. Peleg Smith Rathburn.

I have Wentwith Briggs m. Margaret Elizabeth Estey on 16 Oct 1878. The witnesses were Ephraim Hersey/Levina Hersey.

According to the 1861 Burton, Sunbury Co., NB census. Richard Estey & Nancy Jane Rathburn had a dau. Margaret Elizabeth b. abt. 1860. When you get to their family in 1871 both Susan and Margaret are listed together with the family in Queens Co.

I would say that it appears the two are related.

I would love to hear about the Briggs lines as I really don't know a thing.

I am looking for information about Benjamin Esty (Estey) who was born about 1770 in Billerica, Middlesex, Massachusetts. This Benjamin Esty immigrated to Lower Canada in December 1794 and subsequently married Content Judd there in December 1796. I have papers that document his entry into Canada in 1794 and his marriage to Content Judd in 1796. Our Ebenezer Estey b. 1869 and Ann Woodworth Estey lived in Maine or New Brunswick and had children born in Jacksontown, NB and Fredericton, NB from 1824-1859. John, their son, is our ancestor. The family ended up in Minnesota. I'm not sure if they are related to your Annie and Maggie. Sabrina, Daniel, Edward, Sabrina,Deborah, Saphromia, Zenus, Albion, William, George, and Julia were John's siblings

I have just begun to research, for a friend, the Hersey family of Gagetown, NB. Daniel Hersey b. abt. 1800-1803, b. NB, was married to a Letitia Estey b. abt 1805. They had at least 8 children, most of whom appear to have stayed in the New Brunswick area for some time. They and/or their descendants eventually settle in Maine and some in Newburyport, Massachusetts. This is new research for me - I just started yesterday (3-18-13) so I have very little date so far,

Mary Estay of Salem, Mass was my 6th or 7th generation great grandmother as well. I'm part of the Estey's from New Brunswick, Canada. Our family has a book with most of the family history which goes all the way back to Mary Estay of Topsfield, MA.

My grandfather was Ross Estey (died 1994) from Kilburn New Brunswick (near Perth Andover). His wife was Glenna Rideout from Kincardin? Most of the Estey's live in the Zealand /Keswick Ridge area north of Fredericton, NB.
My dad has the complete family history book dating all the way back to Mary Estay one the Salem witches, she was from Topsfield, MA.

There are Estey's from the Saint John, New Brunswick Canada area as well. Although not directly related they are connected from way back.

I'm hoping this will still reach you, being your post is 9 years old. I am looking for the female direct lines from Lucinda Pulsifer and Cephas B. Estey, so Minnie Estey Kincade is perfect for my quest. I need to know if this couple had any female children born to them who would have grown to adults and married. There is a story in the Pulsifer family that we are part Native American. If this is true, it would have to have been the mother of Sarah Ober who married Amos Pulsifer. I think the best chance we have of finding a female direct descendant of Amos and Sally (Sarah) Ober Pulsifer is through Lucinda Pulsifer and Cephas Estey. Any help appreciated. There are no living descendants in my direct lines through Lucinda's brother, Leonard.

Hi, I also am related to the Estey from Salem, MA and then
to New Brunswick. My 3rd great grandfather was Jonathan Estey and his first wife, Sarah Mills, was my 3rd great grandmother. His parents were Endicott Estey & Hannah Churchill. Although I have found a little info on Jonathan and Endicott, I am trying to find proof that Endicott is Jonathan's father.
Jonathan was my 2nd great grandmother, Albina's, father. Ihave a picture of Albina with her husband, George A. Good.
They lived in Kingsclear, NB.
Would you be able to help me with this? This has been a stumbling block in the line.

I am wondering if you can direct me to sources on Esteys that might include Ebenezer and Ann (Woodworth) Estey of Washburn Maine, later Minnesota. (my line is Ebenezer & Ann > John and Charlotte (Randall) Estey > Osmer and Flora (Estey) Leigh > Julia Leigh Waller. Charlotte was previously married to John's cousin Solomon Estey (1818-1852). I am the great granddaughter of Sarah Ann and George through their son Charles Isaac Fessenden. So, we're not such "distant" cousins after all. I think you descend from George Henry Estee Fessenden and wife Elizabeth Allen. I have a picture of Charles Isaac Fessenden and one of his pretty daughter Sarah, and also a small painting done by George Frederick Fessenden. Have quite a bit of info on the Estee/Estey/Esty line. Made a little progress on the Penneys but not much luck with the Webbs.

Forgot to add that Richard Jr's 2 brothers, Zebulon (died 1806) and John, also went to New Brunswick. Zebulon married in Mass. in 1765, so their move to NB must have occurred after that.

I am derived from Isaac and Mary Towne Eastey as well. FYI, there is a statute of Mary Towne and her Sister, Rebecca Nurse, in the Witchcraft Museum in Salem, MA. Mary was the last person hanged for "Witchcraft" (Sep. 1692).

Esty, b. 1896, Middleton, MA, Water Dept. Super. for I think Danvers, and her mother was Florence Fuller, b. 1896, Middleton, MA. Roger Esty's father was Loren G. Esty, b. 1856, Middleton, Fire Chief of Middleton. Loren G. Esty's father was Jeremiah / Jerimiah Augustus Esty/Estey b. 1810, Middleton, MA. Jeremiah Augustus' father was Jeremiah Estey b. 1781, Middleton, MA. Jeremiah's father was John Estey, b. b. 1743, Middleton, MA. John Estey's father was Jonathan Esty, baptized 1707 in Topsfield, MA. Jonathan married Susannah Monroe of Lexington, MA. Jonathan's father was John Esty, b. 1662, Topsfield, MA. John's father was Isaack Esty/Easty, who was married to Mary Towne, who was hung as a witch. I may be a bit off here and there, as the names tend to repeat a lot, and Fullers and Estys intermarried more than once in the whole line, making some of my ancestors cousins as well (!!), but I guess that's what happens when anyone lives in a small area (Salem, Middleton, Topsfield, Danvers) for hundreds of years). Some of the maiden names of the women who married the Estys listed here were: Towne, Dorman, Fuller, Monroe, How, Griffin, Lever.

I have a pretty thorough reckoning for the Fessenden line back to Nicholas, but I am having a pretty tough time with the lines of some of the spouses, particularly for three generations. I would welcome information about the family line of Sarah Ann Estee (Estey), the wife of George Frederick Fessenden (b. 7 May 1819, Charlerstown, d. ?); Elizabeth Penny (b. 20 Nov 1786; d. 18 Jun 1842 of smallpox), mother of George Frederick Fessenden and wife of Charles Prentice Fessenden; and Elizabeth Webb (sister of Sarah Webb) of Danvers (b. ?, d. ?)wife of Nathanial Fessenden, who were married 3 Feb 1814, and mother of Charles Prentice Fessenden(d. 7 Jun 1746, Lexington; d. 3 Jan 1790, Medford, MA).

I am just getting back onto ancestry after letting it drop about 9 years ago. I am trying to get this up and rolling for my dad, William Stephens who is the grandson of Christina Shackelford and William Estey. I haven't gone too deep into this unfortunately but I am looking forward to really getting this rolling for my Dad's side of the family. So this has been really fascinating...I've been able to track Isaac and Mary to Isaac (Jr?) to Aaron (sr? 1698?) to Aaron (jr? 1746?) to John (1773) to George W to Henry Joseph to William Wilbur to William Henry (1893?)to my dad's mom.

I'm hoping to expand some more and get some more accuracy with this so if anyone can help I'd appreciate it. :)

Hi, I posted about trying to find info regarding Howard and Lucy Estey, twins... my grandfather. I think he may have been the child of Charles and Augusta Hodgkins Estey. Does anyone recognize these names? Thank you so much. I am stuck here! Howard married Mary Donovan. Lucy married a Dave Penney.

Not sure you got my other message. Saw your email from last year while I was researching my grandmother Ruth Estey Chisholm's line. Looks like you and I are related. Your great-grandfather William Estey was my grandmother Ruth's brother! She would be your father's great aunt. I always wondered what happened to that side of the family. My aunt Katherine Chisholm, still alive at 85, knew she had cousins somewhere but not sure where. Would love to hear about your side of the fmaily.

Saw the photos, look great. I have a ton of old photos that look like they are from the early part of this century or late 1800s. I even have a wedding invitation when your grandfather got married! I tried to upload it to the site without much success.

Hi, i just started making my tree but my grandmother use to tell me stories of minnie estey and of mary towne. My mother use to tell me that if i wouldnt go to bed mary towne estey, who was accused of being a witch would come and get me. Not sure what the relations are but i do come from the estey line.
