Surnames: Esher, Myers
I have been researching my ancestors for many years through census records, birth and death certificates, Civil War records, and many other sources including the Internet.

My great-great grandmother was an Esher, Susannah P. Esher. I have many documents relating to her, including copies of Census Reports from 1840 through 1890 (she was a Civil War veteran's widow), her marriage certificate, and her death certificate, plus forms she filled out for her husband's Civil War pension. Susannah was born in 1814 in Philadelphia; she married John M. Myers on 23 January 1833, with whom she conceived eight children; and she died on 19 November 1898.
Her name has been spelled various ways in the documentation: Sussana, Susanna, Susannah, and even Susan.

John M. Myers, born in Philadelphia in 1811, was 51 in 1863, but he signed up for the Militia of 1863 (Emergency) when Lee threatened Gettysburg and Philadelphia and served about two months as a corporal. During his service, John was injured by a horse, enabling him to receive a disability pension for life. Susannah applied for it after his death in 1887. She signed her applications with "her mark" showing she could not write at that time, but her sons took care of her applications.

I also have a John Esher, listed in the 1860 Census as 31 years old, married to Catharine (28), and boarding one George Myers (21). George was Susannah's fourth child, third son, his full name being George E. Myers, born 21 April 1838; died 10 October 1919. I also have his Civil War records, since he served several times and was wounded in action. I believe his middle initial stands for Esher, but cannot find confirmation in any documentation. His name is always listed George E. Myers. In 1860, George was living with John and Catharine Esher in "Philadelphia City" in the Second Ward. I believe John and George are related, either as uncle and nephew or possibly cousins.

My question is -- Is anyone familiar with these two Eshers, Susannah and John, born in 1828-29? Would you know of her or his parentage? The Eshers in the Family Forum lived in Germantown and were German immigrants. Myers is also of German origin. Perhaps these Myers and Esher families both came from Germantown and from Germany originally.
