John L. Eshelman, Jr., age 87, a realtor and community leader passed away on Thursday, July 17, 2014 at Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus, Ohio.

He was born July 15, 1927 in Newark, Ohio the son of the late John L. and Mary Olive (Hoskinson) Eshelman Sr.

He was a 1945 graduate of Newark High School and served with the U.S. Navy.

John was a realtor for 40 years and was active in local and county politics.
He was a former Chair of the Licking County Democratic Party and a former Licking County Commissioner.
He served as a Board Member of the L.E.A.D.S. program and had retired from ODOT as a Real Estate Administrator.
John was a 32nd Degree Mason and member of Newark Lodge #97 F&AM

John is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Gerry Kaercher Eshelman; daughter, Jennifer (Robert) Fitzgerald of Newark, Ohio and Leslie Wright of Newark; son, Chaplain John (Annette) Eshelman III of Springfield, Ohio; brothers, Jared (Carolyn) Eshelman of Newark, Donald Eshelman of Newark and Carl F. Eshelman formerly of Newark; grandchildren, Christine (Scott) Nicholls, Olivia Eshelman and Charlene Eshelman; great grandchildren Timieka and Jordan Long; great-great grandchild, Rylinn Leslie; step-grandchildren: DalAnn (David) Martin and family, Robert (Angie) Long and family; as well as several nieces, nephews and many friends including Mark McLeod.

John was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services for John L. Eshelman, Jr. will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at Brucker-Kishler Funeral Home, 985 N. 21st Street, Newark, Ohio with Pastor Bob Long presiding.

Interment will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery with military honors rendered by the Licking County Veterans Alliance.
The family will receive friends and acquaintances 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
