I am aware that Daniel received a cow from the estate of Derman Maccloud, but I am not aware that he received land, nor that he was indentured to Maccloud. I have an abstract of Maccloud's will, but it only says that Daniel received the cow and a frying pan. I guess I will have to look at the will to see what it actually says.

I will be surprised, however, to find that Daniel received land. Daniel made three land purchases, for a total of 700 acres, then left it all to his children. I have seen nothing to suggest he had any land other than the 700 acres he purchased. I guess I will also be surprised to find he was an indentured servant. Identured servants were seldom able to establish such a large estate.

I have also seen the reference to the bark Mayflower, but I have personally never found a primary source to support the statement. If I read the records correctly, the right to the 500 acres was granted to Teakle by Capt Scarburgh. (from court record dated Jan 1651/2.) This means that Scarburgh held the original right to the land, having paid for the passage of those listed. At some point Scarburgh assigned (i.e., sold) his right to Teakle, then Teakle went on to obtain the grant (on 10 May 1652). Therefore, I'm not sure it is correct to say that Teakle was Daniel's sponsor.
