Jennifer
I realize it has been 13 years since you wrote your last post. My name is Phyllis Krupka and your Great Grandmother Florence Eschmann was my Great Aunt. Her maiden name was Ossman. Her brother Fred was my grandfather. Their father was also Frederick. Frederick Ossman Sr. was married to Amelia Pressler. They had three children, Florence, Frederick and a third child who died in an automobile accident when she was a teenager. Your grandfather, John also had a third brother whose name I cannot remember, who died shortly after WWII.

I hope this helps a little. I would love to hear from you. I met your mother and aunt when I was a little girl.

My mother's maiden name is Eschman and is from Fort Madison, Lee County, Iowa. Her father was Willis Walter Eschman (same area) b. 1912, d. 1982 and had 13 siblings. Willis' father was George Fredrick Eschman born in Iowa 1856, d. 1937 and had 6 known (to me) siblings. George's father was Frederick Georg Eschmann (note the 2 N's) b. 1827 in Alsace, France, d. 1894. Fred married Caroline Haeffner who was born 1821 in Rountzenheim, Alsace, France on 9/14/1850.

My mother says that the Eschman's dropped the extra N in the last name to appear more American at the time when they came to America.

Maybe we could be related.

My grandmother's parents are Mary Elizabeth Obrien and Charles Barry(both deceased)I'm not sure when they passed away, I never had the chance to meet my great-granparents, they died before I was born. My grandfather, John Eschmann, died in 1991, and his brother Richard Eschmann has passed away as well. There parents are John eschmann and Florence, not sure of my great grandmother maiden name. John and Irene Eschmann have two daughter, Irene Black, my mother of five children, and her sister Lorrie Stiedlemayer, mother of one child, Amy. My grandmother, Irene Eschmann passed away on January 16,1999, she was one of five girls, Helen, vivian, Ethel, and Mary. This is my first time doing this, so i hope my thoughts are well, thank you for getting back to me so quickly. Im looking forward to hearing from you.

Eschmann

I found your message very interesting. I know very little about the Eschmann family but would like to find out more. What I have heard about the Eschmanns is that they came from the Alcese Lorraine area of France/Germany. Your message seems to confirm this. I think my ancesters came over much earlier, possibly with the Hessians. Any information you have on the Eschmanns would be appreciated. I have also heard that quite a few Eschmanns settled in Texas of all places. Sorry I couldn't help more.

Do you know if various
spellings are of the same line?

Hi Claire, I have some information on Mary E. Maher, she is the daughter of Mathew Maher and Ellen Crowley. Mathew came from County Tipperay, Ireland and Ellen came from County Cork, Ireland. They met and married in New York and then moved to Ohio. My father-in-law who will be 90 this year said Mary went by the name of Mamie and couldn't remember who she married. He remembered that she had 2 daughters that he also couldn't remember their names either and one married Henry Huesing, and the other daughter married a Joseph Nieman. They all lived in Cincinnati, Hamilton Co., Ohio. Mathew, Ellen, Mary (mamie), Annie (nellie) and their brother James are in the 1880 census. If any of this sounds familiar, PLEASE contact me. Arlene Maher nannymaher@netcarrier.com

Could Ishman=Eshman?=Eschmann?

I am trying to locate my family name lineage. The Ishman name suddenly
appears in its current spelling in America around 1800. Older family members all claim the first
"Ishman" was a Hessian soldier. The closest I have found so far was a soldier
by the name of Daniel Eschmann who stayed behind after the war. Could this be my ancestor? Would
he be related to your line of Eschmanns?

Lena, If you are still out there, please contact me. I am a relative of the New Orleans Eschmann family you are searching for. I have the direct ancestors of yours back to the 1700s in the Bavarian Pfalz. I am related through the wife of Marcellius Eschmann who are the parents of your Julia. The documentation is positive, found in parish church in Deidesheim, their home town. JBW
