My name is Nani and I am looking for family in Acuitzeramo, Michoacan, Mexico. My mother is Maria de Jesus Perez. She was born on September 4, 1941 in Mexico City, but we are unable to locate a birth certificate or baptismal record. Her mother was Maria “Socorro” Luna who was married to Ruben Peres Perez, but her father is Jesus Martinez who was from Acuitzeramo also. He was good friends with my mother’s godparents Patrocina and Jose Espinoza who were also from Acuitzeramo, but moved to southern California.
My mother’s eldest brother is Rogelio Perez (07/15/32)who is married to Maria Concepcion and they have five children. My uncle has visited Acuitzeramo many times in the past and had my grandma’s house torn down to make a hacienda for his wife. He may have sold the property by now.
Socorro’s parents were:
Telesforo Luna and Maria Monica Naranjo and may have been married in January 1888. He had been previously married, but I do not know her name. There were children from this marriage, but I do not know their names.
My grandmother had several sisters that I know of. They were:
· Maria Luisa Del Refugio born around 1888. I believe she died and her husband remarried. The step-mother did not treat the children well.
· Maria Guadalupe Francisca born around 1892.
· Susana Josefa born around 1896. She married a man by the last name of Zamudio or Samudio. They had two or three children which were abandoned by there father. Susana later moved to Mexico City where we believe she past away.
· Maria Petra born around 1898.
· Micaela Luna who was born in 1902 and left Mexico prior to 1920. She ran away with her sister Susana’s husband in the middle of the night and went to California. She eventually left him after having a couple kids and settled in Sacramento, California with her husband Jose. They had three children I believe and one of them is a retired Sacramento Police Department officer.
· She had a brother who remained in Mexico and lived in her house until is death in the late 1980’s or early 1990’s. His name may have been Jesus.
In reviewing Grandma Socorro’s baptismal information, her father’s parents were Jose Guadalupe Luna and Cristina Salazar. Her mother’s parents were Marcos Naranjo and Maria Escamilla. I am not sure if her mother’s name was Maria Gerarda Escamilla, but that is possible. I did find a Monica Rafaela Naranjo that was born in 1872 and I do not know if they are one in the same.
My mother said many of those on her father's side (Perez) who left Mexico moved to Orange County, possibly Yerba Buena or El Modena.
