I was wondering where your Esrey family was from. I've been trying to find descendants of the Esrey/Esray family from southeast PA. I've traced my Esray family back to John Esray who was married to Rebecca Watson. I think John's father was Joseph Esray of Delaware County, PA but I haven't found definitive proof. I'm looking for church records from the early 1800's for a possible baptism or a will for Joseph Esrey that might mention children or grandchildren.

I am replying to this to update my email address in case anyone has tried to reach me at my old email address. I am still interested in finding anyone who is researching the Esray/Esrey families from southeast PA.

Bette,
I am descended from the Esrey family in Haverford Twp area of Delaware/Montgomery counties. My grandmother's name was Dorothy Virginia Esrey Mooney. Her Father was Horace Joseph Esrey (b Feb 1884, died Sept 22, 1916). Her mother was Ida Catherine Stewart, who I believe remarried after his death.

My knowledge from immediate family is limited because Horace died when my grandmother (who is also deceased) was about 12.

What I have dug up so far is his parents were James Esrey and Ella Virginia McAfee. I have traced as far back as James parents - Joseph Esrey and Hannah Bittle

All are buried in St Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Ardmore, Pa.

Any relation?

Delores

Delores,
I have your family in my database since I am collecting any and all Esrey/Esray, etc. families and trying to connect them all. I didn't have any children for James and Ella so would be interested in adding them if you would care to share. In my database I have Joseph's father listed as Joseph Esrey and his mother as Mary Unknown. I apparently didn't put a source for that information, so I don't know how I came up with it. I will have to go through all my notes to see where I have that information from. My Esray's are descended from Joseph Esrey (b. 1753) and Hannah Haley of Delaware County, PA. Joseph and Hannah had a son Joseph (b. 1785) who also had a son Joseph (b. about 1830), but none of those Joseph's seems to match the one who married Hannah Bittle. I have 6 Joseph Esrey's in my database, which makes it hard to figure out who they all belong to. I do believe that all the Esrey/Esray families of southeastern PA are descended from a common ancestor, since the name is rather rare. I am willing to share what I have collected if you are interested. You can email me directly at lopresb@bellsouth.net if you would like to discuss this further.

Delores,
I am in PA researching and the other day went to Norristown to look for some marriage records. When I couldn't find the ones I needed I thought to check for Esrey and Esray marriages and found your Horace and Ida. Do you have a copy of this? If not, I will get a copy made and send it to you. Email me at lopresb@bellsouth.net if you want to discuss this further.

Delores,

I realise this post is old, but I am also a descendant of Joseph Esrey and Hannah Bittle. James Esrey was my great, great grandmother, Hannah's brother. My Grandmother is still living, so I've been lucky enough to have had a few stories passed down. I haven't had much luck researching past Joseph, but better luck with Hannah thanks to my Grandmother. There are stories I've been told about Joseph that I've been unable to confirm. Feel free to write anytime. katherinerollins2003@yahoo.com
