My name is Nicole and I recently got in touch with someone with the first and last name as me. We were trying to figure out if we were related.

Her family:

Her father, Otto Ertl (which is the same as my father's name but not related) was born in Graz, Austria in 1929 and graduated with an engineering degree from Graz University. He was the youngest of four children (Rudolf - a pilot in the military went MIA, Henry Ertl - died when he was in his mid 70's and her father Otto Ertl). Her grandfather, Franz Joseph Ertl was born quite wealthy - his father owned quite a few Villa's at various train stations throughout Europe(he spoke 6 or 7 languages). When her father was very young he was living in a Castle (now an insane asylum) and had cooks and maids to look after him. her grandfather loved to gamble and drink and eventually lost everything handed down to him from his Father. He left my grandmother (and his children) and her grandmother became ill with Cancer (Colon Cancer is our family illness). She was sent to a hospital and the children were sent to a foster family (a doctor and his wife took all of them). her grandmother eventually became well enough to get her children back so her father and his siblings moved back with her in a small apartment in Graz. She was never well again and after she passed away her father came to Canada - he was only 21.

Her Grandmother, was Austrian but was born in Kosice (was Hungary pre 1914) now Slovakia. The family was there since the Great Grandfather was stationed there as a 'Sir' (von Koechel) and Colonel in the Artillery. That is about the only connection we have with Hungary. They moved back after the tour of duty there to Graz.

My side of the Family:

After speaking with my Great Aunt (Mari) she shared some information that sounded very familiar, she spoke of Tirol/Tyrol where my Great Aunt's father (Ferenc Ertl) was born had a brother, Otto Ertl she also mentioned her father had a sister name Manci and Rosza and her father’s father served in the war, stationed in Tirol.

My father's (Otto Ertl 1958-2008) grandparents were Elizabeth (maiden name being Pandovski) and Frank Ertl, they were from Tyrol/Tirol.

If anyone can help to fill in the blanks that would be much appreciated
