I am searching for information on Jacob Erkkila who married Annie Jennings in Woodburn, NSW, Australia in 1892.
He was born either in Raahe or Brakerstat, Finland. The correct location is yet to be determined.
He travelled to Canada and the US at the age of 18 between 1873-78. Then to England before sailing to Wellington, New Zealand in 1879, where he deserted the ship. He later went on to Australia and returned to New Zealand in 1903 where he stayed until his death in Auckland, in 1938.
Between 1881-1903 he was in the Maclean, New Italy region of NSW, Australia bushfelling and running a hotel called "The Half-way Hotel". Jacob and Annie had 4 children, 3 girls (Hilda, Aina & Bertha born in Maclean) and 1 boy (Charlie, born in New Italy). It is said that he had a brother in Australia, his name is unknown at the time of writing.
Later Jacob travelled back to NZ and spent his time working on farms in Northland and Auckland, he ran a greengrocers shop in Auckland as well as working as a caretaker at St Mary's convent before retiring in West Auckland until his death in 1938.
I am searching for any relatives who can provide information or any person who has knowledge of his travels and working history. Additionally, anyone who has knowledge of his brother who was living in Australia.
