Katherine "Katie" Gresh Erickson, 89 of Lake City, Pa,
passed away on Saturday, February 14, 2015, at Pleasant Ridge Manor. She was born August 5, 1925, in Girard Township, Pa,
a daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Arendash) Gresh. As a young girl, Katie helped on the Gresh family farm on Tannery Road, milking cows and doing many chores. She later went to work for the Gunnison Brother's Tannery in 1942, where she worked the next 16 years as a leather finisher. She left her employment there to raise and take care of her family. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Girard and attended the Divine Word Mission in Girard with her family as a young girl. She assisted with many parish dinners and funeral luncheons over the years and also was a member of the Lake City Volunteer Fire Co. Auxiliary and the Girard American Legion Post #494 Auxiliary. Katie loved flower gardening, polka music, going to camp and making jigsaw puzzles. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Anna Baskit, Margaret Artello, Mary Legnasky, Betty Jaglowski, and Dorothy Klobusnik, and also brothers John and Joseph Gresh. She is survived by her husband, Edward L. Erickson, whom she married August 23, 1958, in Girard; her daughter, Cecelia A. Platz (Roger); son, Bernard E. Erickson (Paula); grandchildren, Brian Platz (Connie), Michael Platz (Adrianne), Michael Schember, Jacob Erickson and great-grandson, Logan C. Platz; and also many nieces and nephews. Friends may call on Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Edder Funeral Home, Inc., 309 Main St. East, Girard. A prayer service will be held there on Thursday at 9:30 a.m., followed by the funeral mass at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 101 Olin Ave., Girard at 10 a.m., with Rev. William Miller presiding. Burial will be at St. John's Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. John's Catholic Church or to the Regional Home Health & Hospice, 3526 Peach St., Erie, PA 16508 .
