Mrs. David Maxwell
Mrs. Minnie Erbe Maxwell, life long resident of Sanilac County, died Thursday night at the age of 90 years and 6 months.
Mrs. Maxwell was born Feb. 28, 1857, on a farm near Port Sanilac. She married David Maxwell December 24, 1874 , and settled on the farm which they cleared, and built their home. As an early pioneer Mrs. Maxwell, having lived through the 1881 fire and six wars, knew the many hardships and happinesses that life consists of.
Mr. and Mrs. Maxwell re-built heir home where their nine children were born and raised, all of which are her survivors but Mrs. Henry Mossman. She preceded her mother just three years and one day. Mr. Maxwell died Mar. 6, 1915. The surviving are two daughter, Mrs. Ray Vincent with whom she resided, and Mrs. Chris Suerwier, both of Applegate. Her six sons are Charles of Applegate, Henry of Carsonville, John and Walter of Port Huron, Thomas of Birmingham and Frank of Pontiac, who were pall bearers, and a sister., Mrs. Ida Pincosti, Toledo, Ohio. Mrs. Maxwell had 31 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren.
There was a prayer at the homestead, where Mrs. Maxwell passed away, preceding the services at 2 p. m. Sunday in the Applegate Latter Day Saints church. Burial was in Washington cemetery. Relatives from Detroit, Canada and other cities in Michigan attended the services. ----- Jeffersonian, September 4, 1947
