"Services for James Van 'Snuffy' Epting, of Batesburg, were held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, at Wittenberg Lutheran Church with Pastor Michael Sherman officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to Wittenberg Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 3447, Leesville, SC 29070.
Mr. Epting died Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2005. Born in Leesville, he was a son of the late Thompson Earl and Carrie Rose Shealy Epting. He was retired manager of Epting Distribution Company and Smokey Valley BBQ, was a member of the National Guard NCO Club, VFW, and the American Legion. Mr. Epting served in the Army for three years and Army National Guard for 33 years, fought in Tunisia, Sicily, Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes Campaigns where he received the EAMET Campaign Medal with seven Bronze Service Stars and one Bronze Arrowhead; Purple Heart Medal; Good Conduct Medal; Silver Star Medal; Distinguished Unit Badge with one Oak Leaf Cluster and a No Time Lost Lapel Button. He was a member of Wittenberg Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his brothers, Vivian (Grace) Epting, Leon Epting, and Marvin (Myrell) Epting; sister, Nellie (Boddie) Rinehart, all of Batesburg-Leesville.
He was predeceased by a brother, Everette Epting."
