Does any member have any suggestions for the following puzzle - I have the will of Richard Hawkey Eplett who leaves his estate to "my mother Eliza Eplett ...".
The will is proven "by the oath of Eliza Eplett, wife of William Eplett...".
The only problem is, Richard is noted on his baptismal record as being the "baseborn son of Eliza Eplett". In other words, he was illegitimate.
I cannot find a later marriage for Eliza Eplett at all, never mind to another Eplett male. I suspect the "marriage" is fictitious.
Does anyone living in St Wenn or thereabouts in Cornwall have any clues to this puzzle?
Many thanks
