I am searching for any info. regarding my paternal grandmother whose parents I Understand were Golden Entwistle b.1842 in Blackburn and Judith Oversby (?) b. 1844 Blackburn Lancashire. Florence met and mrried my paternal grandfather - date unknown. He was in the RA Barracks at Woolwich and sent to Pershawar about 1884, returning to the UK bt 1892. They had 7 (?) children one of whom was my father Arthur Golden Langston. I am anxious to find the burial location of my paternal grandmother
Florence somewhere in greater London, as I believe Daniel was interred in the same plot. Daniel would have died just after the commencement of WW2 and was then a Major. The name Nightingale is intriguing - any ideas? Hoping someone can help. Best regards,
Rita

Hello Rita,

I just tried to reply and the whole thing disappeared so if you receive this twice I apologise.

Daniel Langston died in the June Qtr, 1944 aged 84. It was registered in Surrey Mid E, Volume 2a page 272. My personal choice would be to send for the certificate and find out the exact date and town where he died. I would then look for an obituary in the local newspaper as this would probably give the details and whereabouts of his burial. If you can`t get to the library then a grovelling look up with the date to the nearest library that has a local studies department may help.

I don`t know where the Nightingale fits with Florence as she was registered at Birth as just Florence Entwistle. June qtr. 1864 Volume 9c Page 305 in Sheffield, Yorkshire. On her marriage she was also just Florence Entwistle - December, Qtr. 1882 Volume 9c Page 431 registered at Eccleshall Bierhall, Yorkshire.

Florence`s parents Golden and Judith were married at St. John`s, Blackburn in 1863 - this can be found and the certificate ordered on www.lancashirebmd.org.uk.

You probably already know but all certificates can be ordered online at
www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/

I can tell you that her father Golden Entwistle died 22nd February, 1907 in Blackburn.

Hope this helps a little,

Regards,
Maureen

Hullo Maureen, I was thrilled to receive your reply to my query, and fortunately opened up the computer minutes before taking off for a week's holiday!! I will get in touch with you again on our return, but in the meantime, thanks a million for this information - I will work on it. We live in NZ, so there will probably be a bit more research than if we lived in the UK, but it is a challenge.
With our very best regards, and thanks again - be in touch later.
Rita

Hello Rita,

I have been talking to Barbara who is the Research Co-ordinator for the Entwistle Family History Association. Unfortunately she is unable to send e-mail at present, but would like you to know that she has more information on Golden Entwistle and that you will be hearing from her.

Best Wishes,

Maureen

Hullo Maureen,
Have just returned from a wonderful weeks holiday - it is our summer now, and the weather was glorious! Rearing to go again with research, and thank you for your email regarding Barbara - the Research Co-ordinator for the Entwistle Family History Association. Am looking forward to hearing from her in due course, when she is able to email. Do we have to correspond via Message Boards, or can we communicate by direct personal email? If the latter is acceptable, I will send you my email address. I am fairly new at this whole amazing process of researching family, and I am very grateful for the info. you have already sent.
Many thanks indeed, and with best wishes
Rita

Hello Maureen
Sorry I have been unable to answer your email of 15th January and in which you query the 'Nightingale' attached to Florence Entwistle's name. This appears in the 1891 Census albeit it is almost indecipherable! I recall we used to query the same thing when I was young, however, she may have greatly admired Florence Nightingale, and had this name added to hers! I wonder if you would be good enough to approach Barbara- Research Co-ordinator of the Entwistle Associaton on my behalf, as she has not yet contacted me - at the time of my first enquiry back in January, she was unable to email, and I would be most interested to find out more about Golden Entwistle.
With many thanks, and kindest regards
Rita
