William Entwisle/Entwistle christened about 1794 in Edgeworth Lancaster

Searching for a one William Entwisle/Entwistle from England who was caught & convicted of forging a one pound note. In 1819 he was sentenced to 14 years of hard labour in Australia. The only information I have on this chap is that he was christened about 1794 in Edgeworth Lancaster England. He received his TOL here in Australian and went on to have married 2 times and produced 9 children. Towards the end of his life, he became a well known figure in Parramatta NSW before dying in 1864 at the age of 71 years. Can anyone help me?

Regards
Karen Mihaly - Perth WA

Capt Isaac Entwisle

I don't think I have any Entwisle's in my line - which is GARNER/DORSEY however I did find an interesting article in the National Intelligencer.

It seems that on October 24, 1862, the boiler on the steamboat James Guy exploded on the Alexandria, VA wharf. Capt. Isaac Entwisle was injured, as well as the pilot
Mr. Garner.

My great-great grandfather, Thomas Jefferson Garner, was a steamboat pilot in Washington, DC 1850-1870. Much to my frustration, there are three articles on this explosion (Evening Star, Alexandria Gazette, and the National Intelligencer). However, none of them list Mr. Garner's first name. I can only assume that that was my Great-Great Grandfather as he was the only Garner who was a Steamboat Pilot, listed in the Wash DC/Alexandria city directories during the 1850-1870 time period.

Hello there,

I am researching my family and am having a bit of difficulty with a family of Entwistles living in the Entwistle/Chapletown(Turton)area. I have Betty Briggs(nee Entwistle) at Hall Shores in Entwistle in 1861 and think her father was John possibly from Haslingden. She was born around 1816. Any ideas where I can look>

Regards

Chris Foster

I am searching for information about Thomas Entwis(t)le that married Mary Livesay in the 1700's, and their daughter Mary Entwis(t)le that married John Peel. Mary Entwis(t)le was christianed 19 March 1779 at Over Darwen, Lancashire, England. Mary married John Peel 24 Nov. 1800 in England. She died 12 Jan 1848 at Heaton Norris, Lancashire, England, age 69, so she must have been born in 1779. Any help appreciated.
Charlene Peel in California USA
rpeel@inland.net

I am looking for information about Percival Gordon Entwistle married to Jessie Maud Smith a beloved aunt of my father. I have letter from both Gordon and Maud to my parents. They lived in Yonkers.

Gordon was a musician and director, at least acting, of the choir at Columbia U. Their son Wilton Smith Entwistle was, I believe, also a musician. Wilton was born in Yonkers, NY in 1923 and died 1961.
Entwisle / entwistle / Stieber

Hi , I'm trying to put a family tree together for my grandchildren and I'm not having much success . My father told me his Grandmother's name was Entwisle , but he wasn't sure of the spelling . He thinks her first name may have been Mary , but , again he wasn't sure . He said she came from England . His Grandfather was named William Stieber , but, I have heard rumors the name was "americanized" I do not know if there is any truth to that . My father believed his grandfather came from Germany , but, again couldn't be sure . But, he tells me repeatedly there was a Entwisle at Custar's last stand . Any help would be appreciated in setting the record straight . They had children , Jesse , Edna , Helene , William , and George . There may have been more . But, these I know for sure . Thanks Again Christine
